If you want an easy way to sharpen mower blades, and are a home user who only has to sharpen blades a few times a year this is a great option. If you're running a professional lawn care business, I would hope that it's obvious this isn't for you. A pro can justify spending much more money on a sharpener for mower blades. This rotary tool (aka Dremel tool) attachment works well for someone who only needs to do this a few times a year. It's much quicker than using a file, or one of the pull along manual specialty sharpeners. And while you can do this "free hand" with just the Dremel 932 bit, the plastic guide helps you maintain the correct angle. Even faster would be a bench grinder, or even an angle grinder, but again you're stuck doing it "free hand," and neither will work well on the curved portion of some blades (usually mulching blades). If your blade doesn't require sharpening along a curve, you might be able to use one of the mower blade grinding attachments that fits a drill, but if you've got a curved portion to the blade (again like mulching blades), those won't work. I have an old Chicago Electric (Harbor Freight) corded "knock-off" of the Dremel tool, and a Ryobi cordless rotary tool. The Chicago Electric will accept this attachment, but the threaded portion of the Ryobi tool is too small for this attachment. That's because the Ryobi needs to use a flexible shaft, much like the Dremel brand flex shaft. So if your only rotary tool is something like that Ryobi, you won't be able to use this attachment, but if it's a clone of the Dremel where the attachments go right into the main body of the tool, which houses the motor and drive shaft, this should work fine. I suggest having two blades for your mower. I have a riding mower, and a push mower, and I keep two blades for both. That way when it's time to sharpen the blades, I can immediately swap out the fresh blades for the ones on the mower, and then I can sharpen at my leisure, instead of needing to immediately sharpen and go back to the mower for replacement.

I have tried a round "rat tail" file for sharpening my chainsaw blades and never had much success. Maybe I wasn't doing it right. I have also bought dremel sharpening bits and tried to free-hand it with limited success. I began to think of saw blades as disposable... dig into the dirt, hit a rock, saw some oak?... just toss the blade and get a new one. I have only used this kit one time and it sharpened my blade quickly, easily, and PERFECTLY! It pretty much paid for itself after one use. Shop around on here... I found this kit with more features and items for less money. I have not yet used the shear/blade sharpening attachment.

The main problem with this is that the grinding bits are not suitable for sharpening chainsaw chains. It seems that chain oil will dissolve the binder used to make the “stone” grinder material. The end result is that the first time you use the bit the wear won’t seem too bad, but next time you use it, after chain oil has been able to sit on the grinder material for at least a few hours, the “stone” will just fall apart immediately like mush. This is a major product management failure at Dremel. Cleaning all of the chain oil off of a chainsaw chain every time you sharpen it is not reasonable or practical at all. It seems like they made no effort at research or testing. The tool jig parts seem to be ok, so if you buy this that’s the main thing to buy it for. The bits it comes with are the wrong type for chainsaws, and they’re only good for sharpening axes and mower blades and stuff that isn’t covered in oil. What does work for chainsaws is the titanium or similar hard tempered metal abrasive type bits. This is the type dremel should have included. These consist of fused hardened metal alloy so can’t get dissolved by oil like the grit and binder type material.

After years of paying landscaping services large sums of money to maintain (destroy) our desert landscaping on a large lot, I finally fired the last one and decided to just go it on my own. If you live in a normal part of the country with grass instead of cactus, and squirrels instead of rattlesnakes, you may not realize just how much work it is to keep up with the lawn out here where things supposedly don't grow. They do grow, and they grow like the crabgrass and dandelions those of you in grassy states have to contend with. I took a workshop series on maintaining desert plants, tree pruning, irrigation maintenance, etc., then dug out all my old tools from before I had to share my yard with rattlesnakes. I cut, trimmed, chopped, pruned, dug, and hoed like crazy and was left with a pile of dull tools. In keeping with this new found DIY self-reliance, I refused to take my tools in for sharpening and decided to tackle that chore on my own as well. I bought this tool set and a Dremel. The tool set is fine for my needs. Professional tools would have been even better, but would have been overkill. The main reason I chose this set is for the guide attachment. I found conflicting information online about which Dremel models this would work with, and got one that the guide won't fit. The guide means enough to me that I'm buying a different Dremel just for this purpose. I later bought a Dremel vice so I could screw it onto the edge of my kitchen island and hold tools in place as I grind. The kitchen isn't the ideal tool shop, but it's 115 degrees out there and I do as much as I can indoors.

Bought this to sharpen my Stihl 170 chainsaw. Once attached to my Sears rotary power tool (AKA Dremel) it does a good job. Makes it super easy to sharpen a chainsaw. Find out what size grinding wheel your saw chain takes prior to ordering and order some spares at the same time. This kit only comes with one of each size. Stihl 170 size is 5/32 Low Profile.

Great product & price. Made it much easier to sharpen outdoor tools using my cordless Dremel. Highly recommended.

Absolument inutile d'acheter ce pack très très cher pour aiguiser un taille-haie et le prix ne vaut pas les pauvres ustensiles qui sont inclus. Et pourtant, les IA d'Amazon et de Google me l'ont conseillé. Seule la meule 932 est utile, incluse dans le pack, mais Amazon la vend aussi par 3 et vraiment beaucoup moins cher. Je ne sais pas si les autres instruments du pack me serviront un jour...je garde toutefois mon achat que je regrette aujourd'hui car j'ai utilisé la meule 932 pour mon taille-haie et j'ai une tronçonneuse que je n'utilise jamais et une tondeuse. J'espère qu'un jour, ce pack me sera utile pour ces deux appareils, mais je n'en suis pas certaine.
