Works Ok But Get the Longer Version
This Swing-A-Way design has never failed to open a jar for me. It even worked on wide mouth jars with frozen-on lids. However, the claws are little small, hard to set on some lids, and occasionally slip off. You first have to set the lever handle into the right hole along the bar which takes some study and time. It doesn't just fall into place. Then, you have to hold the level down very tightly and turn. You do need some degree of strength to operate this thing. I have large hands and wish the lever handle was an inch or so longer. After I purchased this, I found out that this brand makes a larger 8.8" version, but the lever handle on that one seems to be about the same length. It allows you to open even larger jars like you'd find in a commercial kitchen. For my home use, the 7.5" is ok for most jars, but I'd much prefer the longer 8.8" version for extra leverage. I do like the rubber on the handle which makes it more comfortable to grip. Overall, it works well, but a couple of updates would make it even better.

Quality Product from Good Brand - for a lifetime of use.
It took a while after I bought this to put it into use, but it came in handy when I needed it. It worked perfectly to open that jar of warehouse bought preserves. I had a similar one from the ancient past, so I grabbed this unit from a great brand for new digs. You don't need instructions or safety glasses or to clear the area. Just put it on the jar top - adjusting the grip device to the size of your jar. You probably already know this, right? It is a nicely finished Stainless Steel item - attractive and function - and durable to last a lifetime. Yes, I have strong hands, but I think ground dwelling humans are allowed to use tools, and this is a good one when the occasion arises.

Two-Handed Jar Opener Really Works, Using Leverage & Grip to Open Jars without Pain
Both my wife and I find this a lot easier to open spaghetti sauce jars that I do nearly daily. It doesn't take much thinking and is pretty intuitive to use. It gives you a LOT more leverage to open jars than you would just grabbing with your hand. And it holds pretty well too. It still requires two hands, one to hold, and the other uses the tool as a lever, and it requires about 90% less effort. Before getting this tool, I started to get shooting pains in my wrist when the jar lid finally came loose and started to seem like I might be causing a repetitive injury. A lever is based on physics, and allows you to spend much less effort turning something by applying force further out from center, similar to a lower gear on a bicycle takes less effort to go up a hill, or what any wrench actually does to a bolt. It seems very sturdy and well made. To use, slide open enough and just loosely set it atop the jar lid. Then slide the handle towards the to take up they slack and the latch under the handle will fall into place at the closest hole, but doesn't need to be tight at this point. Squeeze the handle with one hand to close up any gap and let the two teeth grab onto the lid, even if it digs in a little bit and keep holding. Then turn the lever with that hand while holding the jar with your other hand, and it should come lose a LOT easier than with just your hand. If you want to spend more effort aligning it and less on squeezing the handle, it might be possible to set the latch under the handle into the hole that perfectly sizes for your jar lid (if it matches), and when put on the lid it will hang on by practically by itself. However, it is still harder on sealed jars that haven't popped the lid yet, but easier than by hand. For an un-popped sealed lid, I find the using the tight pin position closest to the lid and squeezing enough to deform the lid slightly helps to break the seal, and then it turns easily. It does leave the two teeth marks in the lid, which still works fine to close and store a partially used jar in the refrigerator. But I wouldn't use this on any lid you want to keep forever. This is meant for a disposable jar that you would use up and recycle eventually, and ok to deform the lid slightly. If I had one complaint, is that the rubber sleeve on the handle easily slips off so I pay a little attention to not pull out on it in use.

good jar opener - simple easy-to-use device that works!
It is an easy-to-use device that does what it is supposed to do - it gets the jar open. I've used it now on 3 different large tall jars that had very tight lids. It works very well to 'break' the tight-vacuum-seal of the lid so that you can then easily turn the lid to open it with the jar-opener or by hand when reopening that jar in the future. The reason I've given it 4 stars instead of 5 is because it seems to slightly dent the lid so that the lid fits a slight bit too loosely from then on so that you have to be careful not to lean the jar too far over at an angle so liquid doesn't seep out when putting jar into & out of the refrigerator & not lift jar from the top by the lid when you take the jar in & out of the fridge. Great simple device that works!

This product works with ease.
This works great. I had shoulder surgery and couldn’t open most jars. This jar opened everything I needed easily . It’s adjustable and even works on twist off beer bottle caps and soda caps. I highly recommend this for anyone who has trouble opening jars and bottle caps.

Helpful for arthritic hands and well made
As an occupational therapist with arthritic hands, I recommend this jar opener. The variability in size is helpful and I have used it on anything from small pill bottles to large yeti lids. Being well made from metal it should also last a long time.

Will update later
Cheap made. Not the best but I am keeping it. My old one was stolen when moving but it was the same principle as this one but much better quality. Had my old one 30 years. It was made better but they are not made to last anymore.

I have owned one of these for years, brought mine up, to mums the other day as none of her various new fangled contraptions would open a particularly stubborn jar - my ancient Swing Away did the job in a jiffy and with ease, as always. Made of sturdy metal, simple to operate, will open any jar of any size effortlessly and without damaging the lids. Ordered two from Amazon for family members and I was delighted these are still manufactured - long may they be so. A must for every kitchen - You will not be disappointed.

Funciona bien y es muy práctico, a pesar de lo sencillo que se ve el mecanismo. Es muy fácil su operación. Me da gusto que existan estas herramientas que simplifican la vida.
