You will most likely need to make modifications
I bought this Panasonic microwave from Home Depot but they did not sell the recommended trim kit. So I bought it here on Amazon and it fit just fine. Installation is super easy even though the instructions are lacking. They just give pictures with minimum instructions (my wife said that's because guys don't read instructions anyways). Unless your opening is exactly the same size as the trim kit, you will most likely need to make some modifications to your opening. Jump ahead in the instruction to where you install the mounting pins into the trim. Now measure the distance between the pins from side to side. Then measure the distance between the pins from top to bottom. Now, install the four corner bracket mounts into your opening (it's only 2 screws each). Once you have them installed, measure the distance from the center of the hole in the mount to the center of the hole in the other mount from top to bottom, and from side to side. Make sure those measurements match the ones you took from pin to pin installed on the trim. You can be off by a small margin (no more than 1/8th because the tabs that go in the mounting bracket have a little wiggle room. My width was fine but my height was off so I had to cut out an extra 1/2 inch across the top. After that, the trim snapped right in. You ARE going to have a gap around the trim. It's not made to fit snug. I suppose that's for 2 reasons. First, this trim fits multiple models. Second, if it fit too sung, when you opened the door, it would bind against the side and most likely bend the trim. Overall, I'm pretty happy with the look. I would have preferred something solid looking but those slots are how it vents.

Fits Well, Looks Nice
Relatively easy to install, fit well and looks. There are two minor issues: (1) took me awhile to figure out how to fold the duct and (2) needed a couple more pieces of tape, but duct tape worked fine. The key, of course, is to get a good cutout. The price is very reasonable compared to others, especially considering it comes with a vent duct. Make sure to wear gloves when handling the metal.

An Attractive Trim for the Panasonic Micorwave
The trim kit is very attractive. It is metal, versus the usual plastic. That said, I found the installation instructions to be near worthless. My challenge was I needed to enlarge my previous built-in opening to accept the trim kit. The microwave fit without any required alteration to the opening-not the trim kit. All told the trim kit took me nearly 4 hours to install. The opening needs to be near 28 1/2 by 17 3/8. The directions are universal for five different trim kits. There are several pages showing installation for the several kits. When I look at them, they require the same dimensions and steps. So, lots of wasted and confusing pages. Obviously, make sure your cut-out is square and level (either for true- level or for the cabinetry). The trim kit also comes with a base mount for the built-in microwave. Also, screwing the clip receivers into the space was difficult, due to tight space and small screws. The trim itself has a lip at the bottom that I mistakenly thought would sit on the bottom edge of the cut-out. It does not sit-it floats. The kit also includes a vent, that you will need to fold and assemble. It is well designed, but the directions were not totally clear to me. When the vent is mounted on the microwave the fit (into the cut out) is very tight. There were lots of dry run assemblies when we installed the microwave and trim kit. Initially the trim kit sat too low and interfered with the microwave door. This was just one of several dry runs. As I said, it took about four hours (trying to make everything fit and level). Installation involved much effort and blood loss (there are very sharp edges). I took a star off for lack of clarity in the directions. There are no YouTube to help.

Love this trim kit
This was the perfect finishing trim kit for my recently purchased Panasonic NN-SD997S Genius "Prestige" 2.2 cu ft. The installation needed to be customized by me to fit the cabinet where my previous Microwave/convection oven was installed. I liked the way the microwave was vented with this trim kit. I did not use the supplied tape to attach the top vent, but instead used some aluminum duct tape I had on hand. Also, since my opening was not the exact size specified I was unable to use the clips, but instead, after carefully positioning the trim on the installed microwave to balance the opening, I drilled four holes in the trim and fastened it to the cabinet using small head screws. You can barely notice them and the trim fits solidly on the cabinet. It looks very high tech and seems to function perfectly. While a bit expensive, the kit is substantial and provides excellent venting. Thanks to all the other reviewers who gave good advice.

Microwave and Trim Kit
Edit, this microwave lasted only 14 months. See updated review: BUYER BEWARE! I bought a similar version of this microwave in May 2023. The microwave was installed in a house we were building and built-in to the cabinet with the associated trim kit. We moved into the house in May of 2024, which is when we first began using the microwave. Within 14 months we started to have problems. I heard a beeping sound coming from the kitchen and noticed the power level counting down. The only key that responded to touch was the "stop/reset" key. At first, resetting the microwave by unplugging it seemed to fix the problem; but that only lasted a day or so and then it became totally unresponsive. Searching the internet you will find MANY similar stories. I contacted Panasonic but in order to talk to tech support I would have to pay a $9.95 fee before I could get connected. I chose the "chat" option but that was useless. The agent referred me to a appliance repair store near my house that had a 1.4 star rating. No thanks. Some people experiencing this problem were able to disassemble the microwave and rig it to work with minor issues; however, the power level no longer worked. The inverter power is the primary reason I purchased this microwave. Having it inoperative was a show stopper for me. It's really sad that a microwave at this price point only lasted 14 months. My aggravation was compounded by the fact that I also paid $300+ for the trim kit. In order to build in another microwave, I'll be forced to layout roughly $800. Panasonic is obviously using very cheap keypads that will last just beyond the warranty period. If you have other options, choose them. This trim kit really dresses up the microwave. We used this with the Panasonic NN-SN966S microwave. I have owned similar versions of this microwave over the years and feel that the Inverter Technology makes this one of the best microwaves on the market. The trim kit is a little pricey in my opinion but dresses up a microwave to fit in a custom kitchen. The directions are a little confusing especially since you have to make multiple bends to form the vent.

Cost More that the Microwave!
I still can't get past the price...it cost more than the microwave!!!! The instructions could be much better; the diagrams need more explanation. I assembled the vent backward and had to take it apart and do it again. The metal is marginal; the slots broke off when I tried to reassemble it the right way. For the price, it should be better material. The prongs that hold the cover to the cabinet are very difficult to insert (then turn). This needs more thought. Overall I liked the look, but I feel I've been "held up" at the cash register.

Attractive and gets the job done.
I was able to adapt this to my microwave opening, although I had to be creative. Not because of any problem with the trim kit, but because of the structure of the cabinetry.

Perfect fit
A little tricky for the installation. If you're handy with cabinet carpentry you should be able to install this.

Not recommend to buy
I agree with other purchaser comments, if your cabinet size is not exactly match, do not buy, it is not returnable. here is my story Decide to upgrade my kitchen appliance, built in Microwave is first one, search Amazon and find this product looks like similar with what I have, I verified the measurement, however when I received the product, I found it is so hard for installation because my cabinet WxH does not match with product requirement for installation, actually there is no way to install the bracket. decide to return it #1 Try to create return label, it tells this item is not returnable, go back to product detail, it says " Eligible for Refund or Replacement", you need move your cursor to show this item is non- returnable, this is first time for me to know Amazon has some items seller mark not returnable. #2, Since it is not able to return, decide to figure out how to install it, apparently installation guide does not work for me, there is no place to install 90 degree brackets in my case, so I have to cut them to flat bracket, and then found there is no template paper help me to find the accurate position to install brackets, so I have to do my own measurement, eventually I am able to do it ( you will take you own risk if you follow my installation to install yours, I am not responsible for your damage or loss) #3, After successfully installed, and found the frame and microwave oven does not match perfect, although package recommended by Panasonic store, spaces in all 4 sides of microwave oven, has to do my best to balance those space up/down, left/right. #4, the price is too expensive with few piece of mental, the profit is huge, but poor service and bad installation with brackets #5, the product has design defect, which you can see my old white frame the inner side is 120 degree which can cover spaces between frame and microwave oven, I thought my old one is Panasonic, but actually it is Whirlpool(unfortunately, product is discontinued), you can see the old frame installation uses 4 screws in corner, Panasonic can definitely improve its product by reducing the 4 sides spaces and installation, at least provide paper template to find accurate position to install bracket, provide flat bracket instead of 90 degrees bracket only, and also refer to Whirlpool design, extend vent to left/Right border, it can hide screw for installation like Whirlpool

Mounting clips break off easily
I agree with the other reviews about the cut out needing to be exact for you to mount the faceplate clios. The clips have little flexibility, and if they don’t line up, the clips won’t insert into each other, therefore not making the faceplate able to mount correctly on all four corners. If you try to force the faceplate into the mounting clips theses plastic clips will break. So for me this is a design flaw and would definitely not recommend for retrofit installations for this reason.

DO NOT BUY!!!!!!
This is garbage. The materials it is constructed of are extremely poor quality and although the dimensions of my cabinet opening were compatible with those in the product specifications, it did not fit. YOU CANNOT RETURN THIS ITEM. Also, the manufacturer link provided by Amazon for Panasonic customer support does not work. Overall, a really poor experience. Amazon customer service washed their hands of assisting in any way, and I’m out over $500.
