Does a Far Better and Easier Job than a Roller Brush
I needed to clean and restain my deck. The last time I restained my deck was four years ago. Then, I made use of roller brushes and the usual paint brushes. This time round, I tried this Shur-Line 9-Inch Stain Pad. To my delight, it works so much better than the roller and paint brushes. It was easier than rolling the roller brush to and fro in the paint tray. All that's needed is just a dab the stain pad into the paint tray and it's ready to go. Certainly does a much better job spreading the stain around than the roller brush. I know I am not a professional deck cleaner and stainer, but I am very pleased with the outcome.

Just re-did a worn out deck - Worth every penny
I bought this on a suggestion/recommendation from Amazon after putting some other staining stuff in my cart because my best friend and I were re-staining a deck. Our deck was 6 yeas old near saltwater and as you can imagine it was relatively splintered and had some nails sticking up from warping and wear. I had planned to use a roller with nap for rough surfaces before buying this. Well. I used both the roller and this deck-pad and the deck-pad wins hands down. I had smooth, easy application all the way down the boards. The roller-spots we found ourselves wanting to go over again to work the stain into the wood and avoid the patchy application. We used it for both solid and semi-transparent stain and the pad completed the whole project. Trimming the edges near the house was surprisingly easy with it, and then tilting it to apply in the grooves was also effective. -I purchased a standard broomstick for a couple bucks to mount this - no issues w/that either. Only caution: take care not to get your paint/stain onto the top of the pad (I'd avoid immersing it) because it gets slick and then can slide off. This is easily fixed by sliding it back on and was not an issue for me until I got sloppy and dunked the whole thing - so despite this annoyance that'd I'd avoid in the future knowing what I know now - 5 stars - no hesitation. I'd buy it again - and in fact I will next time I do a deck. Good luck w/your projects!

Another good Shur Line product
Another good Shur Line product, At this price point just use and toss. It is what it is, made for stain, Paint is too viscous for this item to handle, it will break. Put down a couple gallons of stain, I could see if you are using it as a scrubber it will break. Also if you lock in the handle and try to force it, it also will fail.

Worked perfect for me!
Finally found a deck oil (stain) applicator that works perfect for me. I have tried different products but nothing compares to this one! I was even able to turn up sideways and do the stair risers with no dripping. For flat surfaces or stair risers I did the following method in the supplied picture to control unwanted stain drips: Use a paint try liner, ladle, shur-line deck applicator. Scoop out 1 to 2 ladles worth of stain and put in tray liner. Put shur-line into tray liner until it hits bottom of tray. (the shallow amount of stain in tray liner keeps from getting on top of shur-line which would causes drips and messes, the stuff is like water) Then put shur-line on sloped portion of tray liner and lightly push out "some" of the stain. Doing this I found keeps the shur-line applicator from dripping all over the place and gives you time to apply also on vertical surfaces and beat gravity. The other good thing I love about this applicator is I can turn it sideways and slide it under my railings bottom bar and access the ends of the boards that hang out about 4 inches past the deck railing. Usually you have to get on the other side of the railing and finish those by either bending over or hand brushing through the railings, etc. My deck is not super smooth and has fine bumps on it. This applicator was gliding over the boards with no problems whatsoever and I could not be happier with the finished product. In the past I have tried rollers, different type product pads, etc but now I can finally do a happy dance on my deck!

Need to have!
This is a great tool to use if you are staining a deck. I have the extender pole and this made it so much easier and quicker to get it done.

Misleading description - pole not included
The description says this comes with a handle and then includes this description: "RUGGED ALUMINUM CONSTRUCTION: Built with rugged aluminum, this painting roller extension pole offers the durability necessary for tough paint jobs. 6-1/2' EXTENSION: With an adjustable extension scope, this painter's pole offers between 43"" and 78"" of length, making it easy to paint tall walls and ceilings without the need for a ladder." It turns out that the handle is perhaps 7 inches of plastic attached to the pad holder. The pole was not included. The pad holder itself is OK.

Amazing Value
I've used competing products from the orange big box store sold under Behr name that end up getting shredded in less than 600sqft so I tried Shur-Line. This product is the cat's meow. A single pad stained over 2000sqft! This pad survived nail heads and wood splinters while being saturated for over 4 hours. The head locks easily and has the perfect amount of pivot. The only con is the pad does drip worse than other brands I've used but the value and longevity makes up for it.

Worked perfectly
Needed to stain a lot of wood and this worked perfectly. I couldn’t be happier. Some reviews said it wasn’t sturdy so I was a bit concerned when I ordered this. It was SO sturdy and I had zero issues with this product. I will never use a brush again to stain.

Didn't even get to finish staining our deck and it broke beyond repair. Had to throw in the garbage. Would not recommend buying.
