Growing In The Prophetic: A practical biblical guide to dreams, visions, and spiritual gifts

Very Timely
This book has been very helpful as one who was subject to some of the errors Mike Bickle wrote about. It's refreshing to know that what I believed in my heart about prophetic experiences and discipline was correct as Mike Bickle has written about. The amazing thing is my experience is 15 years after he wrote this book. Any ministry that is strong in the prophetic should use this book as a guide.

Excellent Teaching
I've yet to read a book that gives this depth of abundant teaching on the Prophetic and its multiple uses.

Solid look at supporting and managing the prophetic
While many books discuss the prophetic and encourage its expression, not many give a solid foundation for how to properly integrate and manage the prophetic in the corporate Body of Christ. Without maintaining legitimate, Biblical boundaries the prophetic can become a source of great harm in the Body, rather than the great benefit that it is meant to be. This book tackles in a practical manner both how to encourage the prophetic (as we are admonished to seek prophecy above even other gifts) and how to balance it for the benefit of both those giving prophetic words and those receiving them. Based on Scripture and decades of experience, the author cuts through the hype to the core, which is love for God and love for men.

Practical, reasonable, and Biblical.
I've been conditioned to think that any book on prophetic giftings would be sensational, focused on a prosperity-gospel, or simply useless. This book was first of all practical--it showed what New Testament prophecy is and isn't. It also showed exactly how prophecy should be used in the church, why it's valuable, and who should use it. The author presents numerous real-life examples of his successes--and failures!--in allowing prophecy at his church, so we can benefit from his mistakes and trials. Secondly, this book is reasonable. There's no hype, no false promises, no guarantees that "prophecy will make you wealthy and show you your future like a crystal ball!" The reader is given reasonable expectations for what fruit prophecy will produce in his or her life. Finally, the book is profoundly Biblical. Grammatical and spelling errors aside, there's nothing in the book that wasn't backed up by scripture. I recommend it for the most staunch dispensationalist in your congregation. ;)Update, May 2013: I want to point out that I've heard some disturbing things about Bickle's ministry, and several of the prophetic ministers in the book, that I wasn't aware of when I wrote this review. You truly can tell a tree by its fruit, and I don't want to come across as endorsing what's *currently* going on in the lives or ministries of any of these people. The book helped at a critical point in my own walk, and I stand by my opinions of it. However, an endorsement of this book is not an endorsement of the author, IHOP, or anyone else.

A new edition of this book is out!
There's a new edition of this title.I checked with the new one, there are some revisions (changing to different chapters and adding new insights and teachings by Mike).I'd get the new one as the revelation is very important in growing in the prophetic.Throughout the years, IHOP as a whole learn much new revelation of what the Holy Spirit wants to teach the church and the body of Christ. I treasure how they teach you as someone who desires to grow in the prophetic must be humble and use it for edifying the church.I'd recommend this book to anyone who wants to learn more about prophetic gifts and how to exercise your gifts.

Biblical Prophecy!!!
When we deal with prophecy, we need to prophesy in a biblical way that expresses what is truly on God's heart. By doing this, we can grow in our relationship with God by giving prophetic words correctly. God's people need the prophetic and we need to be prophetic according to the way of God. Embrace the prophetic lifestyle!!!

Not what I was expecting- a must read
I finally got around to reading this book that I initially bought a paper copy at the ihopkc bookstore in 2012 at the first Passion for Jesus conference I attended there shortly after my introduction to their ministry. I was a little off put by the name as I thought, not being familiar with how they handle the prophetic, that it might be some "how to" book. It's not at all. I think every pastor should read this book first and foremost although I think that everyone in the church would benefit. My respect for Mike Bickle as a leader has just grown tremendously from seeing the wisdom, humility, and transparency he shows in comprehensively discussing all aspects of the prophetic from the individual to corporate perspective. I've been in Pentecost my whole life (57yr old preachers kid) and this book has leapfrogged my understanding of what the prophetic is (from small to large), the rewards and pitfalls, and the challenges of administering the gifting both personally and for church leadership.A must read ( also well written and easily understood).

Interesting, but be cautious
I would rate this book higher if the author was more careful in citing scripture.Too many times is scripture misquoted and taken out of context. This brings the authors credibility into question.Becuase of the mishandling of the Word, and not knowing this man personally I must conclude to take his words with caution.Personally I believe that the gifts function today, so by reading this book I don't want to discredit this man's experience. In summary I would hope there are better books to read in regards of prophecy. Ones in which a higher regard for scripture is taken.

UN LIBRO PRECURSORE SCRITTO DA UN PRECURSORE!
QUESTO LIBRO NON RECENTISSIMO RIMANE COMUNQUE ANCORA ATTUALE PROPRIO PER LA CARATTERISTICA DEL LIBRO STESSO DI ESSERE UNO SCRITTO CHE GUARDA AVANTI RISPETTO ALLA DATA DELLA SUA PUBBLICAZIONE. L'AUTORE HA BEN VISTO GLI SVILUPPI DEL MOVIMENTO PROFETICO QUANDO ANCORA ERA NELLE SUE FASI INIZIALI. CONSIGLIO QUESTO TESTO HA CHIUNQUE DESIDERI DI PIÙ DA DIO.

Growing in the Prophetic
A very good read from practical experience of success and mistakes - very real. Paul encourages us in the NT 'to desire the gift of prophecy' and therefore this is an excellent book to develope one of the grace gifts - Prophecy.
