No need to spent the $ on a Graco or similar product. The 590 works amazing
I was excited to write this review after several months of use because if you are like me, you are hesitant in purching this unit for fear or undesired results or clean up hassle. I will say this, I would only recommend using water based paint, primer, and poly in this unit. Oil based requires too much time in clean up. This sprayer is awesome. I have used it to prime, paint, and Poly finish my custom built cabinets. I can achieve a professional finish with this gun. I built a spray booth in my Garage and after diluting the latex paint almost 10% and adding floetrol this gun sprays amazing for the price. I am the type of person that does not like brush marks and I am a good painter when it comes to using a brush or roller. Clean up is actually easy once you get the hang of it. Clean up takes about 25 minutes with latex paint for me now. I can paint one coat of a cabinet carcass or multiple cabinet doors and clean up in less than 1 hr. I would not recommend spraying oil based as it makes clean up too difficult. I have sprayed water based primer, latex, and water based poly with this with amazing results. Perfectly flat finishes without orange peel marks. Spraying Poly can be difficult however trial and error on test pieces is advised. Use premium latex paint with this gun and you will see amazing results. I have not yet tried the fine sprayer that comes with this unit. Am planning to try that soon in spraying some stain or dye. When diluting the paint I usually spray on or around the 5 power setting and back the nozzle control knob all the way back. From this position i slightly advance the nozzle knob until I achieve the desirable results. There is definitely a learning curve to this sprayer, in fact my first attempt using it failed miserably and caused me several hours of stripping and sanding down the poplar cabinet doors and face frame back down to bare wood. My issue was that I did not tighten the nozzle assembly tight enough causing splatter/globs to come out. This was of course user error. Diluting latex up to 10% and adding floetrol is a must to achieve professional results on wood. It allows the latex to dry slowly and level out eliminating orange peel effect. The floetrol allows the gun to spray the paint better and more consistently. Do not attempt to spray the paint without either of these. You will get frustrated and believe the error is on the product and not the user. My first cabinet received 10 coats between the primer, latex and poly and they turned out with a perfect professional look. In fact it turned out better than my friends custom cabinets that they spent 10K on. If you are like me and hate brush painting and want professional results with your paint then do not hesitate to get this sprayer. You will be glad you did. I could not afford to spend $500+ on a spray unit, and I am glad i didn't. I have used it outdoors, and indoor in a erected booth and both give amazing results. curing paint should be stored inside to eliminate bugs and dust particles from landing on the paint or poly.

Works great with Ready Seal Wood Stain
I was tired of always staining the deck by hand, especially the lattice, railing and balusters. I decided to try out a spray gun. Researched and researched and this one came back as what I decided the best option for performance and cost. I used the sprayer with Ready Seal Pecan wood stain with sprayer set on "light material flow" and air power "level 2".. I couldn't be happier with the results. My deck is 18' x22' and 14' off the ground. Lattice covers the sides all the way to the ground. I stained the outside of lattice only (roughly 800 sq. feet of lattice) Pros - Made staining the deck fun...well almost - Much faster than painting by hand. - Balusters and lattice were extremely simple. These are normally the worst parts of staining the deck. Cons - Overspray - Yes there is some overspray. I was prepared for this. I bought a bunch of cheap plastic tarps from walmart and taped them to side of house. Total cost of tape and plastic tarps about $15. - Remove paint cup - Removing the paint cup is difficult, especially once covered in paint. tried oil wrench and many other tools. Found easiest way to remove simply to place sprayer on ground, hold paint cup firmly between shoes and twist the top with my hands. Neutral -Weight - Yes the gun is heavy, but certainly manageable. Weight is mostly due to the large 1.5 quart paint cup. A smaller cup would make it lighter, but you would have to fill it that much more often. - Spray gun will splatter a bit the first second you squeeze the trigger, but the Ready Seal does not show any of these drips . It just soaks in evenly as it dries. - Paint Usage - Even with the overspray I found the spray gun to not use much more stain than when I have used a brush and roller in the past. I used 5 gallons to completely cover my large deck, lattice and railings as described above. Although not absolutely necessary, I did put a second coat on a few days later using an additional 4 gallons. - Cleanup - Cleanup consisted of running a quart of mineral spirits through the gun and taking a few parts off the nozzle. Fairly easy. Time to cleanup was probably no longer than cleaning brushes and roller. I highly recommend the sprayer. I debated for weeks before deciding to go this route instead of just staining deck by hand again. This was a no brainer $120 investment for the amount of time it saved.

Worked great to paint my basement
I purchased this sprayer to paint my basement. It is about 1,000 sq ft of space. We are finishing our basement so I used this to paint primer and two coats of Sherwin Williams Emerald paint. Both are fairly thick paints and I did not need to thin either. I would say the sprayer had a little difficulty with the primer. I had to stop to rinse out the nozzle about three times. The paint went on smoother but I also had to rinse out the nozzle. If you don't make sure the nozzle is clean it will splatter. I was able to finish all painting in two days and I think the sprayer was MUCH easier to use than rolling. I made sure to follow all directions and read reviews for tips before starting. You do need to back roll the paint after spraying as there is some spatter that happens when you first start up the blower. The back rolling with a regular roller helped to evenly distribute the paint and it was really easy to do. I would spray a section and them immediately back roll. It didn't add more than 30 seconds of extra time. I covered the ceiling with 15" of masking paper and that was plenty. I didn't need to cover the floor as it was cement but there is some significant over spray on the floor so make sure to cover that really well with plastic if you have flooring. I also wore a respirator, hat and safety googles as the paint gets into the air quite a lot. The sprayer worked so we that I even got a compliment on how well the paint look from professional painters who came in afterwards to fix some of the drywall mudding after painting.

AWESOME GUN! -- plus found fixes to common problems!
I don't typically write reviews, but I was relatively skeptical about this before I purchased, so I had to leave some feedback. In short, thing is awesome. I had some major issues the first time working with it, many similar to what others are commenting about, but I'll leave some tips later down in the review I solved those. I purchased a 1959 home that I've been completely gutting, so I picked up this gun to do new paint on everything in the house -- doors, trim, shelves, walls -- you name it. The only thing I DIDN'T do with this gun is the ceilings. I opted to have those rolled out instead. But for everything else, it's been awesome. I'm about 90% done with the project and I would do it all over again with this gun if I had the change. Absolutely recommended. I had a lot of problems the first time using the gun, but most of them seemed to be due to not cleaning the tip properly during use. So here are some things I wish I knew before I got started: 1. HUGELY IMPORTANT -- MAKE SURE to keep the tip clear of any debris!!! The manual tells you this, BUT it doesn't really explain HOW. When I first started using the gun, I was making sure to wipe the tip with a damp rag, as suggested. I did this quite often. No problem. What I DIDN'T realize, is that it's not the actual tip that matters the most. In fact, it's the little gap/ring SURROUNDING the tip that seems to cause troubles. If you look at the tip, you'll see that there's a little gap all the way around it. If you swipe paint off the actual tip, sometimes the little drying pieces of paint will get stuck in this gap. This is what caused the most trouble for me. Even the tiniest piece that gets stuck in there will cause the to spit and splatter. TRUST me. Keep that thing free of ALL debris. What I did was just kept a little tooth brush type brush on me at all times and would brush it out here and there to make sure it was clean. Most of the time, it would get a piece in there after wiping the actual tip clean. To avoid this, just pinch the tip and pull away from it to clean it, instead of swiping left or right. 2. Some people mentioned that the gun would spew/leak from the tip without pulling the trigger. I actually experienced this once, too. I realized that it was simply due to a piece of debris stuck somewhere in the tip housing that wasn't allowing it to close all the way. Simple fix. Just remove the paint bucket and then disassemble the tip and give everything a quick brush or rinse. That should do the trick. Make sure the black ring that holds the tip assembly to the gun is firmly tightened as well. 3. Make sure to read the manual and match the power setting on the gun to the type of material you're using. I was using mostly latex, and was having the best luck around 6 on the power setting. No more than 6, no less than 5. I was using it at a lower power setting at first because the 5/6 seemed way too high, but it's just about learning how to control the spray and keep it moving along the project.

Huge Time and Money Saver
I LOVE this thing. I purchased it because I wanted a quick and easy way to paid the cornhole boards I've been making for friends. I hate painting. It's easily the worst part of any project. The nice thing about this Flexio 590 is that I can paint one side of 4 boards in about 5 minutes. If you consider the 3 coats I typically add to the boards that comes out to about 15 minutes paint time, 15 minutes setup time, and about 30 minutes in cleanup. That saves me a TON of time. Before I was using rollers or spray paint (which is expensive!). Those tools would take me about 15 minutes per board to paint and about the same 30-45 minutes of setup and cleanup. That means that this tool saves me over 4 hours of labor in the total process of painting 2 sets of Cornhole boards. So, you might wonder if there's any other advantage other than the time savings. Yes, there is. Pros: 1. Saves you tons of time when painting 2. Once you learn how to hold and use it, it will give you a consistent even finish that's really nice 3. If you would typically use spray paint to get the results you want, this product will give you the same finish for MUCH less money 4. Paint goes a LOT further than you might think. It took me several times to realize that I'm only using about half what I put in the bucket 5. Clean-up with Mineral Spirits is very quick and easy (takes a few times to get quick at this) Cons: 1. You actually need to clean it when you're done using it 2. You need to make sure to tape off or cover a large area for overspray 3. You have to start each spray either into a bucket or onto cardboard to avoid specs on the finish Overall I really like the Wagner Flexio 590. I purchased this instead of the cheaper version because I plan to use it for stain on some other projects in the future. I have not done that yet, so I will update the review once I do to tell you how it went. Also, I imagine that lots of people would want to use this for interior painting. I have no idea what that would be like, but I'm sure it's possible to also get a terrific result.

Good value for a spray gun if you know the ...
Good value for a spray gun if you know the basics of painting with a sprayer. This certainly has good value, but if you have a larger scale project to do, get a more expensive professional airless for another 75 to 150 bucks and you'll be very happy that you did. This is good for spraying SMALL SCALE and FLAT surfaces, but gets cumbersome very fast due to the weight and terrible balance. Ignore the lower power settings for the fan, turn it up all the way, use the trigger screw to adjust volume of paint and then vary spray distance as needed. I also highly recommend that you thin your paint appropriately and also you MUST FILTER out any lumps or they'll get caught in the spray tip and jam that sucker up and stop all the fun. Pros -Can actually put out a decently even stream of paint if thinned and strained appropriately -Very economical with paint. A gallon through this sprayer covers a lot more than the same gallon brushed or rolled, but it wont be as thick. This is great, especially for primer. -Overspray is not nearly as bad as some reviewers say, especially compared to a pro-grade airless. Cons -Very fatiguing. This thing is not balanced well at all. Most of the weight is in the front where the paint hopper is, and this is hell on your wrist after a bit. Supporting with your off hand helps, but limits your reach and forces you to shuffle side to side much more. -The detail nozzle is practically worthless. Its basically the same thing as the normal one, but smaller. I tried using it but got mixed results. Invariably, paint would collect on the nozzle and after a bit would require constant (every five minutes or less) cleaning off with mineral spirits and a nylon bristle brush. -This sprayer gets HOT. There is a large motor on the rear that spins a fan at high rpms and creates the suction and force needed to actually spray the paint. Unfortunately, after a bit, this thing starts to feel like a hair drier and this causes paint to dry even faster on the nozzle. -Do not underestimate the weight of 15 feet of power cord if you plan to do any painting up high on a ladder. Being electric, you have run that cord up the ladder with you, and not only is this somewhat dangerous and a pain in the rear, but adds considerable weight to the already heavy sprayer. Overall, I would recommend this if you have some small to medium sized projects to complete, but it certainly is no replacement for a true pro-grade airless sprayer when it comes to larger tasks. I

Awesome, easy to use product for hard to paint surfaces.
I love this product. A few years ago we painted our back deck with brushes and rollers which took about 40-hours of labor. My 16 year old son was given the task of repainting the same deck this year with a Latex paint product, so we decided to purchase this sprayer to help speed up the process. The 40 hours of labor was reduced down to less than 10 hours, most of which is related to preparation and clean-up. He sprayed all of the vertical spindles and hard to reach areas is about 2 hours with this sprayer, which would have taken at least 20 hours with a brush and roller. Control of flow was very good, but he did complain that it started blowing larger "chunks" of paint after about 1 1/2 hours. I suspect that the spray nozzle was getting partially clogged so cleaning would have corrected that issue. Over-spray does occur, but that is to be expected with any spray application, so now our grass matches our brown deck, lol. Clean-up of the water based paint was super easy and it literally only took about 15 minutes to feel like an expert with this sprayer. You should definitely utilize breathing protection while using a sprayer to protect your respiratory system from the product that becomes a mist in the air around you. Also, wear old shoes and clothes because you will paint them if you use this for a couple of hours. Overall we couldn't be happier with the quality and value of this product. Easily 5 Stars in our opinion. Great job by the people at Wagner! Update July 27th. - Used the paint sprayer for our 2nd project, which was painting louvered window shutters. We removed the shutters from the house, cleaned them and placed them on a plastic drop clothe in the driveway. The coverage was flawless using an exterior latex paint. I really love this product. Just looking for an excuse to paint something else now. It makes painting so easy, especially on hard to reach surfaces. If the sprayer broke tomorrow it has already proven to be worth the cost.

Motor overheated after 6 hours then died
I am a DIYer, not a professional. I followed the instructions. As soon as I plugged it in I smelled electrical burn - chalked it up to being turned on for the first time. It is made of plastic mostly which gets stained & clogged (if you are a professional, how is this time saving?) Nightmare clean-up. Were only able to use it for 2 hours before it started cooking the paint - it was smoking. Latex primer did that. Cleaned filter. Day 2 tried some quality paint for a cabinet. It just spit out globs of burnt paint. 3rd day turned it on to make sure it was clean and it started smoking, then shut off. Thought it would catch fire. Sounded like a broken hoover. Then it died. Seriously, bad quality all around. The plastic dials are so thin & loose I suspect they were never going to last. Thought I was getting a good product from a decent company. Maybe it just has their name & was copied. Or maybe I got a dud, that happens. Maybe everything is my fault. Just saying my paint sprayer cost $33 per hour for half a wall & a cabinet I have strip - again. Took 7 hours to clean the Wagner. Back to spray cans & more waste. So never a Wagner for me again but they seem to work based on the reviews. Maybe I got one that slipped down the cracks. My grandfather's brushes are older than I am & they have never let me down. Shame. Wanted to paint my siding. Not even if they replaced this for free would I used another product.
