Excellent resource
I am fully delighted to have found this book, because even with my textbooks (A1-B2) they don't include enough vocabulary and what the textbooks do give us is always so random. There is very little available online in terms of vocab lists so I have had to get Bulgarian friends to translate lists like this for me up til now. This is excellent for making flashcards, and the best thing is that they have marked the syllable stress in the phonetic form (syllable stress is so hard to master in Bulgarian). As to the person who gave this one star ... what kind of person would complain about Bulgarian words being written in Cyrillic? You simply must learn Cyrillic before learning any Bulgarian, that's step one.

Good book for vocabulary building
Bulgarian Vocabulary is a good supplement to a Bulgarian language instruction book or class. It is not a grammar book or a dictionary, however it is a list of 9,000 words listed according to category. Some of the categories include pronouns, days of the week, food, drinks, finances, transportation and many other categories. Not only are the words written in the Cyrillic alphabet, there is also phonetic spelling to help in pronouncing the words. This book is a good way of increasing your vocabulary in Bulgarian on a wide variety of subjects.

Hit and miss.
I purchased this as a present for a family member with a Bulgarian friend. Was fun to see the interaction but the Bulgarian said that a few of the words and phrases didn't translate well. I am not sure since I don't speak Bulgarian.

Quite useful. Choice between 3000 and 9000 word vocabularies
I have several languages in this series, on both Kindle and paperback—Hebrew, Greek, Russian. Quite useful. Choice between 3000 and 9000 word vocabularies. Only a few are on Kindle, however: I wish that choice were available for all languages.

The only thing stupider than this is me for buying it. It is not even in alphabetical order. There are like 100 categories of words so you first have to decide which category the word you want to translate is in then you can look it up. I am still searching for a good, reasonably priced Bulgarian English dictionary. This is my 3rd and worst try. It is doubtful I'll ever use it.

Good but you will need other resources as well!
Useful reference for beginners. I used this to help create some flash cards using the FREE ANKI Spaced Repetition Software learning application. However although very useful, it does not have all the words you would expect in a normal dictionary. Partly this is due to all the odd endings and word variations used in Bulgarian. One day it might make sense to me. I have been learning Bulgarian for about 3 weeks spending about 30 -50 minutes a day. Using this book as well as other resources I can now read and understand about 30% of a normal Bulgarian newspaper (The Standard, Sofia) and about 50% of Bulgarian news websites. I would say this book is a really useful learning aid but you will need to buy a proper bi-lingual dictionary as well. The other problem common to most printed materials is that understanding the pronunciation is not easy from a book. You also need to listen to native speakers and not rely on the phoenetic transcriptions suggested. But the main problem is that Bulgarian is very different to English and extremely difficult to self-teach using online resources.Probably the best use for this book is as a holiday travel companion to decode words as you go.
