Hardwired Transformer for Ring Wired Video Doorbells

Worked perfectly to bring up my ampage for ring 4k doorbell. Easy to install and compatibility with ring doorbell.

Great addition and upgrade for my Ring doorbell. Easy to install and now it charges like it should. Old transformer was not strong enough to keep it powered up after 6 months of it slowly loosing strength.

I will give an update on this product, after a few weeks have passed. I installed it same day it arrived. It was actually easier to install then I thought it would be. The original transformer was put in my condo in the 80’s when it was built. It was rated at 10V, 5VA. I had the “level 3” output and “poor” transformer with a reading of 10V. My mechanical door bell chime was not working since the ring was draining all the juice. Apparently there was not enough voltage to power the mechanical bell with the ring installed. When I upgraded to this transformer recommended by ring…. Let me just say a night and day difference. My mechanical bell now works and there is no delay, the notifications I get them instantly! I have all the features as well; such as night vision color, the led light on the ring doorbell button is now on. (before it would never turn on even during night time) The speaker and mic sound louder and clear. The video quality is also better. After I installed the transformer, I waited about half a day then rebooted my doorbell through the app. (even though I did not need too, I immediately received 16V rating but I wanted to be sure, just incase) So far its perfect. I will update this review as time goes by. Also, just a tip. Make sure you continue to check that you have the latest ring door bell app update. I noticed that ring updates their app like every other day and also ensure your ring doorbell has the latest update. The transformer does run “hot” but its not really that much of a difference. I can still touch it with my fingers but its a higher output in voltage so it’s expected, yet nothing to worry about. Update 4 months later: transformer still going strong and working as expected! But now my mechanical door chime has a slight buzz I heard it’s common if you put a high output transformer. I know it’s my mechanical doorbell because if I shut the breaker off for the doorbell the buzzing stops. It doesn’t bother me and it’s not loud but I can hear it when I walk by the mechanical doorbell chime when there is no noise in my place. Not sure what’s causing it or how to fix it as I have the ring power pro connected to it as well.

Pretty easy to install once I found the old transformer. Leveled up my Ring Doorbell Pro from level 3 (bad) to level 1 (good).

Replaced my ring doorbell with a 4k ring doorbell and learned that i needed to upgrade my transformer. I ordered this and installed it and now my doorbell works perfectly

I did upgrade my transformer with the Ring brand one the day after installing my new 4k camera. It made a huge difference. I honestly didn’t even think about my transformer as my house is not too old. However after checking my original transformer was only 16v 10va. The new transformer is 16v 30va, so clearly a lot more power being offered to the camera. It was very simple to upgrade. After upgrading the transformer the wifi connection was stronger by a small amount -30 to -25. Ring app power level went from 2 to 1. The video went from 1.3 a 1.8 mbps to 5-8 mbps, so. Huge bump in MBPS. Double check your transformer before upgrading camera for sure.

Bought the new Ring Wired Doorbell Pro (was the old wired Doorbell Pro 2), delivered and installed immediately (July). Also bought the recommended “Ring Hardwired Transformer for Ring Wired Video Doorbells” accessory shown on their website for this doorbell and sold through Amazon (it was the only transformer listed, and it clearly stated it supports my doorbell). Had it all installed by a licensed electrical company. It worked for a couple of test rings, electricians left. That same day, the doorbell stopped working (visitor knocked on our door, said he rang bell) and I noticed the transformer was humming nonstop, then periodically throughout the day/night the transformer would make electronic feedback noise like the sound made when squishing bubble wrap together. Two more trips by the electrical company, unscrewed and reattached all the wires (good) and it worked for about 2-3 tries, they leave, the doorbell quits, doorbell ring light wouldn’t stay lit, transformer humming returned, and the electronic feedback came back. The video was stellar quality and no lag (not a wifi issue). Troubleshooting on the Ring app all during this 60-day interval of electrician visits and me trying to research problem, the Ring app was showing a warning for my doorbell that said I had a “level 3 Power Output - transformer underpowered”, that it would cause problems with my doorbell and I should consider upgrading the transformer. Ring only sells one transformer, the one causing the low-power -output warning. the very first “Ring’s Troubleshooting Tips” that is shown after the Level 3 warning explanation is this “Confirm that your transformer supplies 16-24VAC, 50-60Hz, 40VA”. The Ring Transformer on their website is 16VAC, 60Hz, 30VA. I’m underpowered 16V to (need) 24V, and 30VA to (need) 40VA. This recommended, underpowered Ring transformer is the only transformer Ring sells for doorbells (not sure if they sell any for other products but I only care about ones for doorbells). Further, I did a search on “Does Ring Make a 40VA transformer? I’ve cut/pasted the answer here: “AI Overview No, Ring does not manufacture a specific 40VA transformer, but they recommend or require a 24V 40VA transformer for their wired video doorbells, which are available from various other brands.” This was a Google search you can do. Called Tech Support - we cleared up it was not a wifi issue, it’s a transformer issue. After consulting with his Supervisor for about 15 minutes, he said they’d ship me a replacement transformer. He ignored my question asking if it would be a more powerful (24V, 40VA) unit as recommended by their own troubleshooting tips, but he ignored the question and said it would ship out today, was there anything else I needed help with, hurrying me off the phone. I decided if I didn’t get a transformer with the right power ratings, I’d write this review to alert others. Well, they shipped the VERY same power-level transformer that I bought the first time, and the shipment email said this: Part(s) Type: • Hardwired Transformer (North America ONLY / For use with chimes!) The tech support guy knew I did NOT have Ring’s Chimes accessory (we reviewed my registered equipment), I have a pre-existing “ding-dong” ringer. Besides, the more devices and accessories added to a transformer, the higher the power capacity (input) needed by the transformer to meet the devices/accessories power (output) requirements to make them all work right. I was sent “something” to placate me which surprises me about a respected company like Ring. But, the fact remains that Ring doesn’t make/sell the right transformer for their doorbell. Worse, their online Tech Support clearly states that’s why the doorbell may not work right and why (with certainty) I’m getting a Level 3 - Underpowered warning. Huh? This is madness. For Plan B, I just purchased a 24V, 40VA transformer on Amazon from another provider (not Ring) that specifically states it supports virtually every type of Ring doorbell made, wired or not. I bought it after seeing that Ring shipped me the same replacement transformer yesterday. I should have it installed tomorrow and will update on success or failure at solving my Level 3 problem and humming/electronic feedback noise issues with my existing Ring transformer.
