Q: What material are these made of?

I would say a thin-ish card stock. very flexible. protected with some type of plastic coating. They could probably stand-up to a spill of liquid if wiped up quickly, but by no means waterproof or resistant. The best example I can think of is your standard deck of playing cards. Not the bargain basement ones, and not the high-end poker deck. Very Glossy in appearance. I do not have any dry-erase markers/grease pens, but it looks like you could use them on here and wipe them off cleanly.

Q: Would this be good for an intermediate jewelry maker (beading & wire work) who is not good at telling which colors to use together?

Absolutely! This wheel works with all mediums.
