This should have been made into a series or movie. But I guess Western religious indoctrination feels otherwise. Timely especially with revelations about elites. Review: Childhood Favorite - I first read over 15 years ago, but got a desire to pick them up again and give them a re-read because I recall enjoying them so much. These to me blow most modern fantasy straight out of the water. The way Shroud crafted the power balance between the characters, and used that to build and expand on one of (again - my opinion) the best, most logical and well-thought systems of magic make this series so damn good. On top of that! While I'd consider this fantasy fiction, it should also be completely considered historical fantasy fiction; using some historical characters and events from centuries in the past, and blending the fantasy world created by Shroud into your mind in an absolutely seamless manner. They're an easy read, especially now in my 30s, but were even in my teens, but don't think that's a bad thing here. The story is so well thought out, designed, and paced the ease in readability allows to you be completely engrossed in the story in a manner that allows you to feel you're right there by the side[s] of the main characters. If you want some magic and fantasy that hit's in a bit of a more dark and mature way, and are tired of seeing Harry Potter everywhere, give this a whirl. It's dark, gritty, but also has fantastic comic relief in the form of footnotes as the story unfolds from different perspectives of the main characters.

My favorite series!
This is my favorite book series, I love it so much. It’s in the same vein as Harry Potter, I suppose, if you’re looking for a genre. Product-wise, the original cover art for this series is superior to this cover art by an order of magnitude—but it is nice to have all four paperbacks together.

HP fans do yourselves the favor
This is an incredible story that just doesn’t get the attention it deserves. It’s for more than young adults. Anyone that enjoys the Harry Potter books will love these as well.

Paperback books finished off in off-cut sample condition I think. Ok but not perfect. Able to read ok so no worries really. Wouldn’t have bought in this condition from a shop.
