The Linux community has plenty of useful software available. Adam mentions GNU radio, but you can also get the rtl-sdr suite of utilities that are very useful. Several packages apps for aircraft tracking (dump1090), ham radio, digital voice trunking, NOAA weather satellite decoding, and other uses are also available. I have mine running the PiAware software on a Raspberry Pi and feeding the FlightAware site. It's now employed 24 hours a day, so I had to buy more dongles to keep playing! :-)

What's the difference between this and the NooElec NESDR mini 1? Can I use this one as airplane radar?

The main difference is the tuner IC used in the design (another big difference is the improved, telescopic antenna). The tuner in this unit is more sensitive (on the order of 2-6dB). Both can be used for airplane radar (I assume you mean ADS-B @ 1090MHz). You are likely to see more planes with the NESDR Mini 2 vs the Mini 1, all else being the same.

Where is the antenna connector located at? I don't see one located on it in the pictures

It is on the thin side near the rear. It is a Push-on MCX connector that is very small and flimsy. You will need a $5 MCX to SO-239 or some other adapter cable to connect it to a larger antenna. You can find the adapter cables usally at the bottom of the page under "what people bought along with" If you are going to use it for portable applications, you might want the aluminum enclosure you can buy as well.to:1. reduce interference and 2. strengthen the MCX antenna connection. 73 DE Mike N7NMS

When will we see the Mini 2 Plus, with TXCO? That's what I'm eagerly awaiting....

The Mini 2+ (with TCXO) is due for release in the next few days. We are just doing QA on the new PCBs to ensure they meet or exceed our strict standards. They are a bit late for release, but we'd rather be sure we get it absolutely right the first time.
