Hello- Very good question- according to DELL furnished specs your Latitude e5420 does NOT support this 8GB Memory card. It only supports 1GB, 2GB, and 4GB memory card @ 1333mhz- FOR A TOTAL of 8GB- (4GB X 2 memory slot)- using both memory slots.
