MacGyver (Richard Dean Anderson) still travels the world on behalf of the Phoenix Foundation, while reporting to supportive superior Pete Thornton (Dana Elcar). As before, he goes it alone: no gun, no back-up, no wisecracking sidekick--not counting reckless rogue Jack Dalton (Bruce McGill), who drops by on occasion to shake up MacGyver's well-ordered world. Aside from a greater interest in socially conscious causes, like the protection of endangered species, the 1989-1990 season also breaks with the past by an episode set in the Old West ("Serenity") and another set in the afterlife ("Passages"). In the former, Jack and Penny (Teri Hatcher in her final appearance) return as prototypes for their present day characters. Murdoc returns, as well--this time wearing a black hat. In the latter, Grandpa Harry (John Anderson) bids adieu. I love the MacGyver DVDs, but if I had to do it over, I'd purchase one season at a time.
I love having MacGyver on DVD, but there were two episodes that didn't play on my DVD player. Rather than return the entire set, I purchased Season 5 separately. The other issue I have is how easily the DVDs come off the spools. Since I have Season 5 in a separate box, and find it easier to handle. I recommend purchasing the set one season at a time, not only because the DVDs stay in place better, but also because it's easier to return one season at a time, than to return an entire set. Season 5 had two episodes that wouldn't play. Rather than return the entire set, I just ordered Season 5 by itself. I wish I had ordered the entire set a season at a time.

Duct Tape King
I have been an admirer of MacGyver since the first show. A good science student or chemistry student would know how to do all the things that MacGyver does, which is very intriguing. I like MacGyver mostly because he is everything I am not as far as the talents he possesses. I would recommend MacGyver to any adventurous person, science or chemistry-talented person. Watching MacGyver also prompted me to purchase two different swiss army knives, one with an altimeter and compass and flashlight.

a time when the good guys were good; folks knew right from wrong; television had just enough fantasy to make it interesting. I bought the whole series for my nieces & nephews to watch when they are over to my house. I remember this series really got me interested in chemestry, physics and logical thinking. Even though the scenarious seemed far fetched it was fun trying to prove it wrong (or right). Sometimes entertainment - can just be entertainment and not have to prove something. So pop a bowl of popcorn and fire up the DVD with some old fashioned TV programming and enjoy the family times.

Another set of adventure stories from our favourite polymath and handyman. Surprisingly though, I did not feel these were as good as series four. There were several new writers of varying quality. There were also more stories involving social issues rather than straightforward action. Although I'm not against these, I feel there were too many. Although I enjoyed all the episodes, just one, The Madonna, which was made for Christmas transmission, was so sickly sentimental and cliché ridden I don't ever want to see it again. However, looking a the fan reviews, most of them seemed to enjoy it, so I'm in a minority. Well worth adding to your McGyver collection.

Ich habe lange überlegt und fleißig Rezensionen gelesen,bevor ich mir schlussendlich statt der Gesamtbox doch alle Staffeln seperat gekauft habe. Nach vorherigen Käufen mit wenig reizvollen Covern bei den DVD's und ohne Titel der Folgen, bin ich hier absolut froh beides wieder zu haben. Schön aufgemachte Cover und alle Titel der Episoden sortiert. Ob Episoden und deren Titel vertauscht wurden oder nicht, wie andere Rezensenten berichteten,stört mich dabei weniger. Ich habe die komplette Serie!! Und nach dem Schauen der ersten Episode wusste ich auch wieder,warum ich die Serie haben wollte. Es werden nicht nur Erinnerungen wach, sondern die DVD überzeugt auch im vollem Umfang mit dem Charme der guten, alten Zeit. Denn die “Neuauflage“ der Serie war schon im ersten Trailer eine pure Enttäuschung... Ein Sprung zurück in die gute,alte MacGyver Zeit. Absolut Retro, absolut begeisternd. Viel Beschäftigung für lange, verregnete Sonntage!
