Repellent for both catsand dogs
I find that this works well on cats of a younger age especially kittens it's a bit hit and miss with the older cats I think they become accustomed to certain scents and they don't bother them as much. However on saying that when I've put some down in the past I've found no foul there in the future. You have to reapply when it's rained but apart from that it's a good scent and appear to work on most cats I've come across. It also appears to work on dogs too (tested on driveway where it meets the pavement)Can't hurt to try it if your out of options. It comes out of the bottle like jelly pieces.

Worked for a short time!
I bought this to help keep the local cats from using my Lavender garden as the public toilet! It says on the packaging it repels cats and dogs and did this for a few days but the little monsters were soon back to their old habits. It has a very strong scent and sort of gloops on the surface looks a bit Slimer from Ghostbusters has paid a visit.

Gel Smell Schnell...
Product arrived in good time and order. Spread about half of the bottle around my front garden and lawn, quite evenly and I was impressed by the strong smell. Today I came home to find the offending cat actually sitting among the gel, under the shade of a tree, looking like the Queen of Sheba. At £6.00 a pop, this stuff is a great way to burn money FAST. Has no effect what-so-ever.

So far so good
As my neighbours cat has decided my garden shall be designated the latrine that she frequents often I decided the time had come to try a few things to deter her.My approach has been two fold and to that end I have deployed both chemical and technologial weapons in the struggle. The cat repellant crustals being the chemical element. As mentioned by others wet the ground and then squirt these on, simple. They smell like citronella candles. I have deployed these in the area's hardest hit by the aggressor and so far so good. No fresh cat deposits! As mentioned my approach was two fold and I also deployed the STV610 - MEGA-SONIC CAT REPELLER. Although initially I was a bit disappointed it seems the sonic cat device has become a lot more effective (in fairness it says it takes time), and I now exclusively use this now that my crystals have run out.I will update again with progress from the front!Update 07/05/2013: it would appear the sonic cat repeller is working well for me. I have been clear of mess for a good few weeks and I think its effect on cats is more subtle. I mentioned the device to the neighbour the other side of me and she reports that for the last few weeks she has also seen reduced incidents of cat mess. Now all I need is a device (a legal and humane one...) to silence my neighbours barking dog!

Expensive and ineffective with dogs
Expensive for the amount supplied and the area covered. Washes away in the rain and even in dry weather it sinks into the soil quite quickly. My cat seems to stay away from the areas where this product is applied but it has no effect on my dog at all. It will not stop dogs doing long-range pees on your plants, something my dog specialises in.

I use it all the time
This works really well at stopping my cat from going on my freshly made up flower beds. you have to top it up when it rains and be consistant with it, if you dont use it for a while then there is a chance the cat will have another go, but then put some more back on and they stay away. would recommend this one. Other ones smell like garlic which i think is worse than the smell of this one.

ONLY thing that has worked!
Tried EVERYTHING from orange and lemon peel, cocktail sticks, sprays and ultra sonic sound - nothing worked but this. I think the spray works well If reapplied but these are a bit water proof so even after it rains they carry on working. You do have to reapply after a bit but has certainly done the trick after 2 years of trying everything!

Mild deterrent, but not long lasting
Easy to use, but I'm not sure how effective they are. We had foxes digging for worms under our large composting bins. Backfilled their excavations and have been using this for s few weeks. I think it has put them off a bit (only had two incidents of them digging since) but it does not seem to last very long. I have been reapplying it once a week or so and that seems to help. Longer than that and they are back to digging!
