It does the job for which is was intended.

I installed and it worked great. My only complaint is that it tests itself every couple of minutes and makes a sound. I have a light on my panel that flashes a bright red light when a pump comes on. The pump was installed in a sleeping area and I had to remove it because the noise and the bright warning light on my system annoyed me to the point that I could not sleep. I replaced it with a Rule float switch model which are great. Only brand I use.

Bought this product several years ago and waited to see how it performed. Still working as designed and very reliable. Over five years now and still going strong.

I replaced an original automatic style Rule Model 27S that failed after 7 years with this newer model 27SA. I purchased this one in hopes that my original snap-in base would fit on the new model but unfortunately that is not the case. The pump housings themselves are different and incompatible. The good news is that although the outlet hose is offset from the original, the new model has slotted screw holes so that the original mounting screws can be used and the unit can be rotated to align with your existing installation. That feature is a nice touch that I appreciated even more while in an awkward position lying down to access the bottom of my boat.

Warranty is three years but this unit failed in three weeks! Motor “stuck on” overnight draining battery by running all night in dry bilge. No leak. Didn’t shut off properly. Previous identical unit died after 4.5 years continual — 12 months/year — service. OK! Won’t buy Rule again: look elsewhere. I expected better for top of line price.

After writing the original review the folks at Xylem were prompt about sending me another pump. It seemed to have stopped working on automatic as well, but the fault this time was in the wire to the automatic switch. Have increased rating to 4 stars and hope it works longer than the 1st one. Original review: Stopped working after 2 months. Seemed fine for a while - turns on, checks for water, pumps if needed. Surprised to see water on bilge one day. Checked fuse and wiring, all seemed good. I had the idea to give it a little tap with a boat hook - started pumping. Since then it has pumped very randomly, but usually doesn’t pump and manual override does nothing. My bilge is very clean and there is no fouling of any kind.

Love this pump I will never go back to a float type of pump again.
