Will pressing too hard damage the surface of the A4 Light Pad?

Light pads like this one are simply sheets of acrylic with a reflective sheet adhered to the back... then a tiny light is placed at the side (it's under the black label) & turning on the light makes it shine through the acrylic "pad." Pressing hard won't damage the surface, though it could be damaged if you used a sharp implement that scraped the surface, or if you didn't use it on a flat surface (eg held it in your lap) & pressed hard enough to break it in half. I have seen reviews with pics how some people theirs "stopped shining" only on some part/s of the pad (not sure if this particular light pad or similar)... that could only happen if moisture or something else damaged the reflective sheet on the back.

Can this be used for photographing old film negatives ?

Yes, that's a good use for such a light panel, but this is probably a little bigger than you need unless you plan to capture multiple negatives in one shot. Such 'ganging" is best for reference: showing a whole roll of 35mm film, or four or six 4x5 negatives that form a natural group or share a subject. The resolution created by such a multiple-negative scan will NOT allow for an enlargement you'd be satisfied to display. An image of a 35mm roll (36 film exposures) needs an 8.5x11 panel minimum.
Then if you want to use all the camera resolution for one negative, you'll bring the tripod a *lot* closer to capture the single neg. You need a dedicated macro lens. This is something I have done professionally. Watch some videos for more suggestions.

Does this run out of light eventually? Does the light bulbs burn out? Or can u change the light bulbs 💡 somehow?

I don’t see any light bulbs to change. I think when it burns out it’s finished & you have Buy a new one. It runs on LED bulbs so it will run along time before it burns out.

Question 4

Want to be able to take notes at night on paper.

Accepted Answer

The light is bright enough to see symbols on the canvas when the canvas is against the light pad.  If the light can come through canvas, it would be able to come through a sheet of paper.  These lights are also good for tracing images using 2 sheets of paper.
