Serious Sam 2 (PC CD)

I loved the first serious sam game. This is fantastic fun, I play this for short bursts after work usualy, Its not demanding and doesnt pretend to be anything but a fun shooter. Sort of nostalgic really. Great graphics, good satisfying feedback when you blow the alien scum apart. funny cutscenes and lots of humour throughout. If you like sohisticated games stay away, otherwise its a real winner.

Its serious sam but not as we know it, a lot of the comedy is gone and has been replaced with irritating things. Imagine SS1 but replace all the enemies with irritating ones which aren't hard to kill but are deeply irritating. Then remove all the massive open arenas whereby most of the massacres in the original two took place. Then add lives and an ammo shortage. There you've got it SS2.... deeply dissapointing, not funny, filled with irritating enemies deeply unfair enemies (compared to the first game) and there you have it. Complete annoyance.

an excellent game

As far as Serious Sam games are concerned this game is a disaster. As far as FPS games in general are concerned it's not bad. Unfortunately though, it does have that great lineage and it's no good pretending other wise. Enemies are stupid, vehicle sections are silly, levels are small, secrets are not funny, game is not funny, some weapons are downright absurd (parrots anyone?). Such a disappointment, compared to the previous installments, back in the days before things were ruined by pathetic console newbies. On the plus side, this game does have a few nice bosses, good graphics (although the performance can sometimes be below-par), the destruction of the environment can occasionally be quite satisfying. These things help drag it up from the pit where the likes of Dreamkiller languish. It's not enough to shoot it much higher though, no way in heck.

It makes me smile just thinking about this game. It is a totally tongue-in-cheek FPS with all the dials turned up to eleven. A robot spider not good enough for you? How about a 30-foot high robot spider? Now how about five of them and an army of screaming zombies too? If you like blowing up lots and lots of baddies with an assortment of large and improbable weapons, this is the game for you.

Good purchase

After the first game i was expecting more from the sequel than this. The graphics are poor considering the reasonably high specs, and the gameplay doesent build very much at all on the origional game.
