The fan is located at the back of the unit. It runs very quiet. I was surprised at how quiet it was. Dehydrators that we have used in the past were so loud and noisy. I am really pleased with this product.

Yes, it comes with a owners manual which shows functions and maintenance of the dehydrator. It also came with a small 10 page recipe book..
