Beaks Hardcover – January 1, 2011

This is an "Acorn" book published by Heinemann/Raintree, so is designed to deliver content area information to early readers. As a first grade teacher I really appreciate the great job they did creating a book meant for new readers. The paperback book has a tight binding with thick pages so will stand up to student use. There is a table of contents page, labels, headings, picture glossary, and index for exposing kids to nonfiction text features. The text is simple with large, vibrant photographs. It does not offer a lot of information because of its easy-to-read design but it does introduce students to the overall concept of birds having different beaks to meet their specific needs.
