Brother PPF1270e IntelliFax
My cordless phone IntelliFax Machine (Brother) played out after several years. IntelliFax Machines are very hard to fine, don't know why? I don't like BIG BULKY machines with unecessary options. I really like the small compact Brother PPF1270e IntelliFax, hope to get the service, from this one, as previous Brother IntelliFax.

LCD
I couldn't set menu because the LCD isn't working properly so that I can put all the necessary info in. And the paper keeps jamming up. I tried cleaning the rubber rolls that is supposed to move the paper through. I used isopropyl rubbing alcohol with a que tip, but that didn't help, either. I don't know what else to do. I can't afford to send it back. It's just like my Brother Intellifax 885 MC, and that one is doing the same thing with the paper jamming up.

Simply functional
I just ordered my fourth 1270e - that's in the last 10-12 years. Each time I have researched the alternatives, but the other basic faxes are bulkier, cost way more to operate, or have bells and whistles I don't need... So I keep coming back. In my home office I have a good copier, a laser printer, and a very good scanner, and haven't yet seen a multi-function machine that does all those things at the level of quality I require. For faxing, though, really high quality isn't a priority. Simplicity, speed, and decent readability are what I ask from my fax, and the 1270e does all of that nicely. My small private business is partly run from a home office, and for that the 1270e is very suitable. If you do high volume in or out, this is not your machine. They each have lasted me about 3-4 years with no repairs or maintenance other than wiping down the rollers with rubbing alcohol and cleaning out paper dust maybe once every 6 months, and a couple drops of lubricant in key spots once a year -- and they are cheap enough that when something finally breaks (or as in today's episode, I break it) I just replace rather than repair it.The machine is very simple to set up and operate, easy to clean and maintain, and has adequate memory. The cartridges run in the $25 range and usually last me 3-4 months (I track cartridge use carefully; incoming faxes probably average 150-250 pages a month) and are a snap to change. You can use the replaceable film rolls and save a few bucks.I rarely send more than 15 pages at a time, and the machine can handle that w/o any problems, and it'll handle 40-50 pp of incoming OK - the blank paper tray doesn't like a bigger load than that. Yeah, occasionally paper jams feeding in or printing out, but no more often than the various other office machines I have had over the years. If you do get a lot of jams, check the rollers - jiggle them to be sure they turn freely, and if needed, clean them. A small scrap of paper or lint, or a build-up of grime can increase jamming. If that fails, or it jams from the start, try a different brand (or weight) of paper - I have had some brands that jam a lot and others (usually of slightly better quality) that cause no problems at all.

IntelliFax Machine
Great low price as a back-up fax machine for home office use for under $50. Hopefully will last until I upgrade all my machines in 6 months. Convenient as a home additional phone as well, whether you have an office set-up or not.

basic quality
The Brother 1270e is of basic quality and features and works reasonably well. It is not especially fast nor quick on mode of execution, but it works reasonably well. As a refurbished model is was very inexpensive and well worth its price. It was a replacement for a much older Brother fax machine which does more and will need to be repaired for the one flaw that BOTH these machines possess: The mechanism that transfers the ink from the mylar ribbon is pressed tightly against the paper by plastic clips on each side of the mechanism. THESE CLIPS TEND TO SNAP/FRACTURE APART OVER TIME, either due to age or trauma. For my old machine, this will be the second time I'm replacing those clips. This new machine has similar plastic clips so I assume the same problem will happen eventually. Why Brother doesn't make them out of metal is quite beyond my comprehension.
