Blackstar

its a great record a great farewell by David Bowie. i love each and every song featured in this album. my personel favorites are tittle song BLACKSTAR and LAZARUS. i just loving to listen it all the time.Thank you so much David for BLACKSTAR and may your soul REST IN PEACE.

Blackstar stands as an utter beauty and is one of those few post 2000s album that is certain to be thought of as a classic decades from now, it is the swan art of an artist who stands as one of the most iconic, important figure in music. Bowie touches on so many themes in Blackstar with death being the center of all. Blackstar, the title track, is utterly mysterious with themes such as the fear of anonymity, solitude, acceptance of what fate has for you. The 3rd track, Lazarus, tells a tale of a scared Bowie trying to accept death whilst also attempting to help his loved ones and his fans in the acceptance of his death. The 6th track, Dollar Days, is a sad tale of what a person wishes to do one last time before their death. While the last track, although upbeat in its music, offers many interpretations with fear of anonymity of the legacy one leaves with their works being one of them.

It's a David Bowie album. Enough said.

This 5-star rating is purely on impulse. While I have nothing against Amazon, I would blame Sony Music for the sub-standard packaging. I mean, what is so wrong with glass and plastic cases instead of the shoddy cardboard covers that we get? Even if you charge us a premium price for the same, we would not hesitate to pay since it will be at least worth it.Anyway, Amazon had a great discount on this- of 50% and my mom bought it as a birthday present for me. Makes perfect sense, since I am a hard-core David Bowie fan and also, since all his other albums are so expensive. I had, of course, already explored the whole album on MP3 and ITunes files but the CD does make the difference.In my book, 'Blackstar' is clearly one of the finest Bowie albums out there. And that is saying a lot, given the sheer variety of work that he had done in more than 4 decades. What makes 'Blackstar' so astounding as a musical masterpiece is the rich texture that the artist brings to the jazz rock template of the album. The lyrics are clearly the finest, most poignant and powerfully imaginative that he has written since 'Scary Monsters' (ever since 'The Next Day', his songwriting was on a roll again), the fascinating blend of jazz percussion, classy sax and propulsive rock rhythms is seamless and stunning and his voice, as a singer, is both compassionate yet versatile and solid as ever.The album, like some of the historic greats- Pink Floyd's 'The Wall' or The Beatles' 'Rubber Soul'- has also a throbbing streak of personal statement all throughout. And that is what makes this complex and intricately engineered sound experiment poignant and emotionally stirring. We know, in our hearts, that this was his last album- his swansong and Bowie delivered nothing less than that. In many ways, the songs of 'Blackstar' explore, with searing intensity, the thoughts of death, afterlife, of aging and decadence- things that only a man having lived his life fully would understand. Between the lavish musical experiments of 'Blackstar' and 'Girl Loves Me', there is crushingly honest confession and acknowledgement of the erosion of virtues ('Tis Pity She Was A Whore'), of death and anonymity ('Lazarus') and of collapse of marriage ('Sue or in A Season Of Crime) and morals ('Dollar Days').Each of these dark and intense creations hits hard with the razor-sharp writing and the heartbreaking melody produced. But there are also, crucially, moments of Technicolor-vivid beauty- as in the latter half of 'Blackstar' or in the Nadsat ramblings of 'Girl Loves Me'. And then, there is his ultimate masterstroke- 'I Can't Give Everything Away'- his clear-throated, impassioned confession of his own demise in the most beautifully graceful way.The sound quality is exceptional- when playing it either on my Macbook or in my father's car stereo set, the background bass makes a solid beat while the lyrics are totally audible without any marring. The extras include a single lyrics booklet with the words written in glittering black along with some photographs of Bowie.As said before, everything is fine with it and Amazon even delivered it on time but the packaging is a sore point. Still, for such a great album, that is a minor niggle.

Cd damaged

It's nothing like the old Bowie. Too much sax and like an easy-listening album.

It seems unbelievable that Bowie died, but somehow that he composed and sung and incarnated his show until the end is not. This is exactly the power that was his, the power to keep his hand down to the crowed where everyone was invited to take it and be a little less alone.As the star dimmers and cools down, it becomes unable to emit light... but sometime, sometime it burst an echo of it's presence to the rest of the universe.That album is the echo of this love, managing to give a decent ending to an otherwise endless story; because where artists have to leave us, art shall not, and death shall have no dominion.

Es una verdadera obra maestra comparable con The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders, Low y algunos de sus mejores álbumes. Creo que él sabía que iba a morir y en verdad se esforzó por darnos un excelente disco. El disco viene muy bien con buen arte en su portada y caja. La verdad vale la pena. Me arrepiento de no haberlo comprado antes cuando estaba a un bajo precio. Aún así logré conseguirlo a buen precio. Creo que hice una excelente compra. Estoy muy satisfecho
