The photography in this book is wonderful and it looks elegant on my table.

The book is not quite as represented. It covers many Mercedes models - great photos but no depth of info.Had I realised the the poor quality of content, I would not have wasted my money.

This "Marcedes-Benz: 300SL Book" fantastically captures this iconic line of automobiles and features the best car photography I have ever seen. This is a very large "coffee table" style book that would be welcome in the home of anyone interested in the history of the SL line, and particularly for any one fortunate enough to own one of these beautiful autos.The descriptive text on all of the models is fairly brief, covering the model year design innovations, any interesting historical information (mostly centering on racing data), and production statistics. The accompanying photos by René Staud, on the other hand, are simply outstanding, ranging from fairly austere to incredibly artistic. My favorite is of the Limited Edition 2009 SLR Stirling Moss (only 75 were produced), taken alongside the classic 1955 300 SL, designated "722", to which it pays homage.I also liked the inclusions of an Index with all of the "thumbnail" sized images and a "Specifications" section that includes a photo of each auto, the year(s) of manufacture, number built, model number, and engine data.A truly wonderful book for an outstanding line of automobiles!Highly Recommended!CFHNote: I received a review copy of this book from the publisher, but that in no way influences my rating or comments.

It seems only fitting that a book chronicling the history of the Mercedes-Benz 300 SL would be so beautifully designed and rendered. (Then again, one suspects that in publisher TeNeues' hands, even a volume on the Chevy Nova would come off in spectacular fashion.)In concise, descriptive words by Jürgen Lewandowski and glorious photographs by René Staud, the book tells the history of the car perhaps best known for its singular design feature, the "gull wing." Dubbed the "sports car of the century," it's also, in introduction writer Paolo Tumminelli's words, a "dream car." Staud's playful and imaginative photos follow that theme, depicting the 300 SL from every angle, in whole, in part, in every conceivable quality of light, in showrooms, sparse studios, and in lush and fanciful renderings of rain, fire, sky, cityscape, and wilderness. (Think a high-design Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue with one gorgeous model and a myriad of aesthetic interpretations.)The book traces the icon's history from the first rendering of the "gull wing" (in the W 194 race car) to the iconic Roadster, while making room along the way for the 300 SL's many siblings. The story rounds out in the present day with the SL McClaren, SLR Stirling Moss, SLK, R 231, and the return to the car's gull wing ancestry with the SLS AMG.A great book for 300 SL owners, enthusiasts, aspirants, or anyone who appreciates a skillful melding of artistry and technical know-how.

As a European automobile enthusiast, I have seen A LOT of Benz books, but this one wins my heart. Just flipping through the photos, you get a chance to get up close and personal with the cars like you would at a dealership. The lovely interiors, the distinct open doors that look like wings... It's a great new addition to my coffee table. A conversation-starter, definitely.It's full of inspiring photographs and phenomenal color schemes, it's almost like these sleek wheels are posing for you!If you love cars, or if you're a photography fan, or both--rev up your engines! This book will take you for a wild ride through the world of Mercedes Benz.
