But sometimes my hands hurt and using a saddle stich is hard. It also can get messy in a small space. So I got this stiching awl to take with me out on the road when I'm traveling. I made a little card holder from everything out of the box. I only needed a lighter, a burnisher and a piece of leather. The awl was easy to learn. It was easy to push the needle through the thick pieces of leather by pushing it down on the table. My hands were very pleased with that. The needle is very sharp so you could use just it to punch holes. I really love the stiching chisels. The grooving tool is really nice. I was very pleased with the wood and quality of the tool. The head cut a very nice groove and it didnt get stuck. I used the thread in the tool and it was very heavy duty and didnt spilt while using it. Would buy again. Review: Works perfectly, highly recommend - Excellent little kit. The sewing chisels work well. They do come coated in oil, as others have complained about, but they're high carbon steel tools. If they weren't high carbon they'd be soft and dull quickly; if they didn't come coated in oil they'd be rusty. The stitching awl is a direct, 1:1 copy of my American made Speedy Stitcher, and works almost as well. The scissors are sharp. The only complaint is that the thread isn't amazing. It works fine, but it's a bit lumpy in places and snags easily when saddle stitching. Final note: this kit doesn't come with any needles for saddle stitching, so if you want to saddle stitch instead of using the awl, you'll need to get a pack of needles from someplace.

Want newly designed groover..
My biggest issue is with the grooving tool. I wish the kits came with the newly designed tool so the leather won't keep cramming into the hole and packing. I've been practicing on thicker veg tan leather and have only been able to get it to groove once for about 6 in. Never mind if I want to stop and regroup to make a turn. I'm not impressed with it at all and that tool a big reason why I bought the kit. So far, everything else seems like it will work well. Don't get me wrong, I really like the kit but I am really depending on that groove tool.

super easy
I have used this to fix clothing and even a pair of socks. I thought i was just going to be practicing on the socks and it worked so well i am using the socks still. I use this directly from the large spool of thread and love that method. Super easy to use. I am no good with sewing machine but can use this to sew and hope to use it on leather. it will for sure work for leather. I would buy this producat again and from the same company.

It will get you started
If you are new to leatherworking than this product will get you started. However, expect to upgrade fairly quickly. The stitching groover isn't worth a hoot, but the stitching forks are decent and the stitching awl is okay.

Perfect for leather or suede stitching!
This is an incredibly useful set! I was really happy with the quality of the tools and the easy step-by-step instruction sheet of how to use them. I think it would be an asset to a beginner or an experienced leather crafter. I do beadwork that often requires leather or suede backing and have used this kit to stitch with considerable ease. I definitely recommend this one.

A nice beginner set
This kit has everything you will need to make your own leather goods. The tools are very well made and they're very comfortable to use. This company also carries more tools for you to choose from which is really nice. They're a great company with high quality products! I recommend this item and this company 100%

Covered in oil
Everything was perfect except the prongs. The prongs were covered with an oily substance and to top it off I receive two single prongs and no double prong.
