Fantastic and freeing
Im so glad I decided to give a menstural cup a go and wish I had done it sooner but I guess some things just become easier with age- I'm 30. I've used the cup for 2 cycles so far and can't believe how easy it was to insert and remove. I was worried I might struggle after reading people's experiences for cups in general but for me it was pretty simple - maybe it depends on how comfortable you are with your own body. I feel cleaner and more in touch with what's going on with my body as you can see exactly how much blood you lose and it shocked me the constancy of the blood which you don't really see with a tampon. So relieved not to have to carry tampons and have the worry of do I flush it or not which I know you shouldent do. Also your not getting cotton fibers onside you with a cup. I wouldent say this cup is completely leak proof as you have to make sure it's inserted correctly -which can take a little getting used to but not difficult. compared with the leakage I would often have with a tampon on heavy days, it's miniscule and 99% of the time no leakage at all. The rim on the cup is quite thick compared to others but hasent bothered me and I can't feel it once it's inserted so maybe it's a good thing . I'm glad I brought the red/ pink colour as it won't show stains over time as much . One thing I was hoping the cup would help with was period pain but I'm afraid to say it hasent helped me at all with this. My period pain on the first and second day is the same and pretty unbearable without pain killers.

First ever cup I tried - wish I had bought one sooner!!
I ABSOLUTELY LOVE MY ATHENA CUP!!! I bought size 1 , I've never given birth and have been told I am 'small internally' by a couple of nurses whilst having smear tests done, so thought that would be the best size to opt for. NEVER have I found my period so comfortable and easy to deal with!! I've had almost 30 years of uncomfortable, leaky and drying tampons, sweaty and bulky pads, OTT expense, ruined underwear, ruined bed-sheets, and anything involving water (swimming, relaxing in a lovely hot bath,) being a complete 'no-no' for almost one week of each month. even normal showering was troublesome for me at times. What a joy and relief finding this menstrual cup has been! It has completely changed the way I view 'period time' because I know that it will now be comfortable, un-hassled, inexpensive (actually, no extra costs at all), and easy to live with. Now I admit, the first couple of times I inserted and removed the cup I thought it wasn't going to be for me. However after a quick YouTube search for some extra hints and tips about different ways of folding, some easy removal advice and cutting some of the removal tip off the bottom to stop it rubbing, I am completely sold!! I LOVE IT!!!! Once you have the insertion and removal techniques down, it is the most comfortable and hassle free way I have found to deal with menstruation. I would suggest still wearing some kind of pad or panty-liner whilst getting used to using your cup and knowing how to check it is correctly inserted, just to be on the safe side. I did this and found I needn't have bothered. It's so easy if you follow the instructions and don't get all weird about being very intimate with your own anatomy!! I've used it for two periods now and I know I'll never go back to anything else. Easy to store, carry, clean (I use warm water and some very gentle, feminine hygiene soap), and change ( I find I only need to empty 3 times a day, first thing in the morning, mid afternoon and bedtime. Even on my heaviest days, which I would say are reasonably heavy considering the sizes of, and how many tampons and pads I would need each month. A big change from needing to be sure anywhere I went had easy access to a bathroom every couple of hours if I wanted to be completely sure of avoiding any leaks. Thank-you Athena Cup for making period time so easy!! I wish I had taken the plunge and bought one of you sooner!!

My first menstrual cup!
TLDR: I am loving the cup and I am getting more proficient in using it with each practice. Happy to have less stress during heavy periods and do my part for the environment at the same time. Game-changer, and as some users already mentioned, life-changing. I've been having very heavy flow in recent years (perimenopause) and only changed to using tampons early last year (it wasn't a common thing that part of the world I was from - how did I even survive!). Still, with super-plus tampon I had to change out every 1.5-2 hours which was super inconvenient and stressful especially when I am out and about. I've been wanting to try a menstrual cup and after much research, chose Athena Size 1 small as a beginner user. At 15 quid it also didn't feel like too heavy an investment in case it doesn't work out for me. The first time I used C-fold and really struggled to insert it. Subsequently I used the punch-down fold and it was much easier. Using the cup means that I don't have to wake up so often in the middle of the night to go to the toilet. The tip with its grooves is meant to be gripped using your fingernails and I've found it's not possible to have a secure grip using the sides of your fingers. This I learnt the hard way. After the first night the cup had migrated further up overnight and I couldn't reach the tip with my nails so I couldn't get my thumb and finger on the bottom of the cup - took me between 15-20min to finally reach my longest finger over the rim to break the seal and remove the cup. Lesson: be sure to allocate enough time to change out if you're a new user, and breathe! Haven't had this experience ever since, perhaps due to my consciousness not to insert too far in. I've used the cup for 5-6 times now and am happy that it becomes easier each time, though I might get a bigger size because it fills faster than I had anticipated. I still use a pad for security but foresee that I might be able to switch to just a liner. At this moment I don't feel confident enough to be able to change out in public toilets especially if there is no nearby tap. Still, happy to reduce the usage of pads and tampons, which translates to savings for my pocket and for the environment. Looking forward to using it more in place of pads/tampons.

Fabulous fit and great quality
After buying my first menstrual cup on Groupon, I decided to buy a 2nd one so that I can have two, to use alternatively night & day. The first one worked very well but is but fiddly - though as I had no previous experience to compare against, I thought it was fab for what it was. However upon receiving the Athena cup, I noticed a big difference ! The Athena cup was also a size 2 (for women over 30 or who experienced child birth), however slightly shorter and with a much shorter stem as well. The ring circumference is the same size though. The quality of the silicone is where I felt the biggest difference is. The Athena cup is slightly thicker and when you fold it between your fingers and insert it, seem to just “bounce” into place straight away - whereas the other brand I purchased first, is thinner and sometimes quite difficult to position properly. So far it sounds like the Athena cup is far superior, however there’s notable difference. Though both feel like they both fit and sit securely around the cervix - and both have the same circumference, the Athena cup has leaked slightly twice now - which the other brand hasn’t once yet. So despite its “leak free guarantee” I disagree. When I experienced leakage it wasn’t because there was too much fluid either. If you have very heavy periods, perhaps think about another brand, as this cup size 2, is on the smaller side and seems to hold less than the other band so have. A note on removing this cup: don’t try to just pull it down, as a seal would have been created around the cervix. Instead, pinch it slightly and tip a little bit to the side when pulling out. It done carefully, no spillage should occur. I’m still happy to recommend and hope that’s I’ll crack the slight leakage issue.

Good product
I am still getting used to the idea and the whole process, as i was quite negative and sceptical in the beginning.. When i managed to use it right, it gave me so much peace of mind and sense of cleanliness. And i was unlucky enough for my difficult days of the month to coincide with a quite intense and rigorous Yoga teacher training, but it stayed in place and all was good. I bought the small cup, in clear. It is easy to fold, quite soft and looks/feels like really good quality. Once i put it in, i could not feel a thing, as if nothing was there. I was a bit concerned about the stem, during bicycle riding, but apart from the fact that if placed correctly, the stem does not stick out, it is so soft that it does not create pressure or discomfort, when i sit on the saddle. I think it does take a while to get used to, especially regarding correct placement and with taking out (please be patient and take the time to relax, do not force pull out, it will hurt). I have only been able to place&remove while in the comfort of my own home and in the shower, i do not feel like i could ever do all this while anywhere outside, but it works for a good amount of hours, so you should be ok. I am happy to recommend this cup and i am sure it can make our lives so much easier. Thank you Athena team.

Lifechanging purchase!! What are you waiting for?
I've been wanting to try menstrual cups for the longest time but have put it off and put it off due to fear! I've had sensitivity issues in the past down below and was genuinely terrified to try these. But since having my daughter, tampons have been really uncomfortable (constantly feel like they are slipping out and I can feel them all the time) and pads just leave you feeling gross. I finally went for the Athena cup (mainly because they had a satisfaction guarantee and lots of good reviews) and then it sat in my bathroom cupboard for quite some time. I finally got the courage to try it, petrified it would disappear inside me never to return again. How wrong I was! I first tried putting it in in the shower using the 'punch down' fold. A bit strange at first but I was quite surprised at how easy it seemed to go in and also how I couldn't feel it at all (I was totally expecting to be able to feel it like the tampons)...I thought I must have done it wrong as it all seemed too easy. I guess it remained in place with no leaks for about 7hrs but then started leaking. I thought maybe it had moved or it wasn't in quite right but in actual fact, I think it was full and overflowed as when I took it out it was FULL (I thought that wasn't meant to happen? Maybe it is a really heavy month?). Anyway, on day 3 of using it now, I am absolutely amazed and am SO glad I finally had the guts to try it. It is so great, so clean (apart from the taking out part - think i need some practice) and now on day 3/4 I put it in in the morning, take it out to clean and replace at night and it's like I'm not even on my period, what a difference!! If you are scared or reluctant to try it, be brave...if it's the right one for you, it will change your life!!

Hard to insert
Today i used the athena cup. The cup quality is gud , the only problem i felt is ,its too hard to insert . Because the top inserting area is too hard. Removing is ok .

Period changing!
I don’t know about anyone else, but when the time of the month comes around, I dread the thought of all the tampon changing - and of course the extortionate price. Using a menstrual cup was not something I had really considered, but after being recommended by a friend, I thought there was no harm in giving it a go. I compared a few of the different brands, and I decided to go with the Athena cup, and in terms of my period, it’s the best thing I have ever done. The cup came very promptly, and as recommended I gave it a trial run before my time of the month, and I’m glad I did because you do have to work out what works best for you in terms of inserting and angles and stuff, but once you get the hang of it, it becomes second nature. So when my time of the month came around, I felt prepared, and I can’t tell you how much it has changed my periods. It’s so comfortable, you cannot feel a thing, and it’s easy as anything to remove (and for anybody thinking it would be a messy experience, it’s far from it!), and you can leave it in for longer as you have no risk of toxic shock. It’s a one off payment, so you’re saving so much money that you would be spending monthly, and there’s no damage to the environment! They come in different sizes, and the silicone means that it moulds exactly to your vagina, cupping your cervix and ensuring no leaks! This product has changed my periods!

Recomendadísima
Llevaba tiempo pensando en comprar una, sobre todo por la comodidad para viajar, ir a la playa... Y me encanta.

Great cup but there is a learning curve...
Quick review points: 1. Great beginner cup 2. Learning curve is several days (take your time) 3. No leaks! (Seriously.) On a more detailed note...So on prime day the Athena cup was on sale for $12. After considering a cup for several months I couldn’t pass this deal up! A few days after the cup arrived I started my period and I was actually really excited to try it. I decided to try the U fold since that was the first suggestion in the instructions. I couldn’t even get it in! Was I just too tense? Take 2. Should I fold it a different way? Take 3. OK, it definitely started to pop open and I didn’t know if it was too soon so I pulled it out. Take 4. I was already frustrated and realized I’d been in the bathroom close to 15 minutes. I had to leave my house for an appointment so I just put a tampon in and decided to try again later. Around lunch time I tried again. After 15 minutes I got it in but it was crooked and pinching me when I walked. So then I tried again, using the “triangle fold” and finally got it! I went to the beach and it felt fine the whole time. But when I got home it had leaked a little into my swimsuit so I thought I must not have put it up far enough. Wrong. I put it up too far! I spent 45 minutes that evening freaking out, bearing down over a mirror on the floor and trying not to cry. I finally managed to get it out. Although it had been a tedious and bloody experience, I had enough courage to try again and reinserted in with minimal effort (maybe 2 minutes). The following days of my period, using the cup got increasingly easier and less time consuming. I am also happy to say that the next month I had no issues at all. Inserting and removing the cup has become as easy as putting in a tampon. Also, sleeping on my period has truly become a mess-free experience!!!! If that’s not worth $14 I don’t know what is. Overall I am extremely pleased with this product and so happy I’ve made the switch to cups! Other side notes: the cup will become discolored after a day or two. From what I’ve read this is completely normal. I boil mine once my monthly is finished for extra sanitation. Like the instructions say, this cup is meant to sit low in the vagina. This means you may feel it some throughout the day (if it pinches or hurts it may not be inserted correctly) and when you wipe. Lastly, when removing, “bear down” and release the suction by sliding 1 or 2 fingers in along the side of the cup then pinch. I’m not sure if the small tab is meant for removing the cup but I have not been successful just using that.

Super Alternative!

Great option
This is a great cup, nice quality and very comfortable. I have had staining occur but that seems to be par for the course.
