Good product, fussy installation.
These grips are a good value and a noticeable improvement over the skinny, hard plastic grips that S&W puts on them at the factory. As noted in many comments, the installation can the tricky. For me the most difficult part was driving out the factory grip pin. This one did not want to leave home and took some pretty stout whacks with a heavy steel hammer and a 3/32 Tekton pin punch before surrendering. A shot of Remington DriLube spray helped it along. Then there is the fussy bit of prying out the little plastic nibs that are in there so that the grips can also be used on another J-frame model. Forcing the grips onto the frame is a bit of struggle and requires some hand strength. The end cap went on easily for me, engaging the new grip pin. Nothing about the process is highly difficult, but if you have no relevant experience you may want to seek help. I am rating the grips five stars for comfort, functioning, and affordability. I don’t think Hogue could do much to make installation easier, being limited by the original design.

Yes, It Tames Recoil!!
60020, Installed on S&W 642-2. The OEM grips gave a two-finger hold, left backstrap exposed, and didn't come far enough up to cover the "hump" at top of grip--and that hump really smacked my palm, between thumb and index finger. This grip gives three-finger hold, covers the backstrap with rubber, AND goes all the way up to top edge of the frame hump, with an extra insert to absorb shock. It spreads and softens the felt recoil. Tula 130 FMJ (not listed as +P, but feels more like .357--a lot hotter than Remington .38 125 JHP +P), awful with OEM grip, is literally comfortable with this Hogue. Installation was not difficult. Read instructions and look for 'track' in grip, that the OEM cross pin travels in. On the 652-2, the original cross pin was used. For other models, Hogue provides a replacement to swap it out. There's also a plastic filler strip. I left it out, and grip fits solid with no looseness or wiggle. Pressing the plastic butt cap into position was easy, the instructions were good on that. I may end up shooting this little fella more, now that it's no longer a painful ordeal.

Great grip and super value
A total gamechanger for S&W bodyguard. With stock grips +p 110 gr would tear the skin on my upper thumb. Very painful to shoot. This grip absorbed most of the recoil and made shooting 130 gr +p and 158 gr a thing of ease. Like having a different gun. Install was a breeze. The hardest part was knocking out the original pin. Would highly reccomend

Perfect Upgrade for the S&W Bodyguard 38
I always felt that the grip on the S&W Bodyguard 38 was too small. It's not long enough and the handle is quite narrow. It never felt very secure in my hand. Enter this Hogue Grip. I watched a few videos on youtube on how to install it. I had it installed in under 15 minutes. It was easy to do and makes a huge difference. Now the grip is wider and a bit longer so it fits comfortably in my hand. Highly recommend. A couple of installation tips: 1. Cut two rectangles from the plastic that the grip ships in and use those instead of business cards to slide between the frame and grip when you are sliding on the grip. 2. Use one of those 4 way screwdrivers, with the bit removed, to open up the end of the grip instead of using a shell casing as recommended in the directions. The screwdriver handle gives you plenty of leverage to open up the grip cap so it can easily pop on over the installed screw thing in the handle.

It does fit
This grip does fit properly however the one thing I'm not completely satisfied with is the butt cap. It feels like it's in there snugly but there isn't a screw or anything that makes it 100% secure. You basically work it on there by using either a spent .38 shell or something like it with the same diameter as the shell. I do like the grip. It gives the firearm a much better feel in my hand over the original. Anyone who owns this firearm...S&W .38 Special Bodyguard...knows the original is thin, narrow and feels like cheap plastic. The Hogue grip gives a nice, comfortable, and secure feel to the pistol in your hand.

PITA*S to install but...
Once installed makes the gun so much nicer to handle, really is worth the effort. I don't know why S&W doesn't come stock with a decent grip in the 1st place. OH... this is installed on a "Bodyguard" revolver, 38 special, for reference. Knock out the 4 tabs inside the grip 1st, they are there for a different model. I had to use a Dremel a bit, to remove some material from the inside of the grip, YMMV...

Smith and Wesson 642 Airweight aluminum frame stainless cylinder
If its for 642 airweight, buy it. You wont be disappointed. Just empty the cylinder of the rounds first, pull old grips off the firearm, leave the factory pin because it's a Centennial series, slide the Hogue Tamer grip on. Once seated nicely, the last part may be a bit tricky till you figure out the best way to hold it all together, but you will want to put the cap on with the indent to the bottom with a .38 shell against the bench and push it all together. It doesnt really click into place but youll feel it grab. Super easy to repeat the process once successful. First Hogue I've installed and super happy with the fit, engineering and even the price. Hogue Tamer takes a bit more real estate in my pocket holster but the balance is hugely met with the more comfortable and stable grip. Under 40 bucks with tax, prime delivery got it to me in 12 hours-ish. I wanna keep writing but i gotta go sit in my easy chair and twirl some revolvers.
