Moana: The Mighty Maui Makes a Friend

My boys (ages 4 and 9) are crazy about the Moana movie and they especially love Maui. It can be very difficult to find Maui related items with so much of the merchandise geared toward girls. When I saw this book I knew it was a must have! The looks on their faces when I pulled it out as a surprise at bedtime were worth every penny spent and more. They really enjoyed the story (which is told from Maui's perspective) and have asked to read it multiple times. If you have a Moana or Maui fan then this is a great book to add to your library!

This is a really funny, charming, very Maui-esque story with such a sweet ending. The illustrations are beautiful and the tone really matches the Maui character from the movie. Maui and Moana's friendship was so important in the film, and this does a great job of showing the flip side from Maui's perspective. I can't wait to read it with my five-year-old!

I enjoyed this Maui story and loved the friend angle. This was a good one teaching persons to become friends. Definitely a good one to read!

The book was very short and easy read. It was funny, so my little ones stay engaged throughout the whole story.

Book was obviously very used. Writing inside, bent pages, missing cover. Absolutely horrible.

It's basically a rehash of the movie. My son was disappointed in the story. Great illustration, but the story itself isn't that great.

It's a cute, easy story for young readers 4 - 6 to try to read or to have as a bed time story. I purchased it because it had very nice illustrations and gives you a look at Maui's island stranded life before Moana found him. I really enjoyed the wide fantastic fantasy concepts in the film of Moana with Tamatoa, Lalotai, Ti Feti, and the mention of the Gods who raised Maui. I would love to see more of the relationship between Maui and Tamatoa, the film hinted they knew each other for a long time and were likely friends before Maui for whatever reason removed one of his legs. Hope there will be more books brought out that explore the Moana film universe be it for any reader audience Disney markets to - young to older children and teens such as they do with Frozen’s book franchise.
