Classical Chinese Folk Music

I know nothing about traditional Chinese music, nor am I Chinese, but I purchased this CD based on the reviews saying it was authentic cultural music. I work in a nursing facility where the majority of the residents are Chinese immigrants, and I wanted something to play during art groups and yoga classes. This is the perfect blend of relaxing and soothing, but with enough rhythm to keep you on your toes and not let you fall asleep. I notice a difference in my residents when they're listening to this music - they enjoy my programs that much more.

I'm enjoying the music. I was a little surprised that some of the songs had what sounded like a more "western" sound that was blended with the Asian. For eg., I can swear I am hearing musical themes that have a somewhat late 60's/early 70s spaghetti western theme. This isnt throughout th entire CD but in a couple of places.

every recording on this cd is great. i can never find this kind of mucic locally. it was definitaly worth every cent i paid for it and i would come back looking for more!

This cd is very "loud" chinese music. I prefer soft background flute and whispy melodies. This cd is sometimes too metalic.

Too plane. No beats.

I bought this cd, among others, for my 100-year old father who was born in China. He loves the music and plays it often!

The music is very good. I feel that I cannot fully appreciate it because I am a westerner. Some of the sounds did not appeal to me. I was looking for something soothing, and I found some of the sounds to be the opposite of soothing. I can tell that the artists are very talented.

comme indiqué dans le titre, ce disque contient trop d'influences de l'occident, on a affaire à des instruments traditionnels, certes, et même des airs anciens issus du répertoire classique, mais l'harmonisation visant à rendre cette musique plus "écoutable" aux oreilles occidentales dénature le style premier de ces musiques dont l'écriture n'obéit pas aux mêmes règles que la musique européenne.... dommage

I purchased this CD for my preschool classroom for Chinese New Year along with another CD, Chinese New Year Music. The children didn't really like it. It was a little too fast paced, but a good example of the classic Chinese folk music.
