One Cute Pattern, Needs a Little Tweaking, Other Concerns
So I got this a few weeks ago thinking, hey. If I can get a little sketching in at some therapy sessions, maybe I can get some granny squares in too! Ha, ha, ha. A month later, I finally finished the only one in this book worth doing because I was making a lot of scheduling lemonade. And that was after I convinced my crochet hooks, who hadn't seen me in quite some time, that it really wasn't an imposter trying to make off with them. So, as others have mentioned, this is not a book that's going to teach you how to do any of the stitches. If you are looking for one of those, these are two books I own that you can get used copies of that are excellent resources for crochet: Sasha Kagan "Crochet Inspiration" and Jane Crowfoot "Ultimate Crochet Bible". I am sure there are more recent offerings of a similar nature still in print, but since I don't have much hobby time anymore, and crochet books are no longer one of the widgets I collect, I can not speak to more recent offerings. But both of these are excellent and will teach you a wide variety of skills and techniques that are indispensable if you plan on taking this up as a hobby. And I think since this E-book is titled "How to Crochet..." it is a very valid criticism that there are not any explanations for the stitches. Now when it comes to the patterns in this book, there are really only two of note: the owl, shown on the cover, and the peace sign square (which is absolutely of no interest to me personally). The owl is the reason I downloaded this, I knew my sweet, animal loving daughter would think it was the best thing ever. And when I finished the square, finally, tonight she was even squealing about how cute it was. True. Everything else pattern wise is quite elementary and easily found other places. A couple of them, like the single crochet square, I was having a hard time feeling generous about them being included. The owl square, the only real problem I could see with it was that the explanations for putting in the single crochet chain three circle on the back of the owl for adding in the actual granny square part could have been better. For example, it says to start at a DC (double crochet) to the right of the owl's ear. But unless you hit exactly the right pair, your square will be off and wonky. The picture needs an arrow. And she says double crochet singular, and it's really the double crochet pairs that you are counting and working around for that step. For me, personally, I can overlook tinkering with the pattern if it's free, and by the time I downloaded this, it was. But if I had to pay for it, I'd be kind of upset about the lack of instructions (if I needed them), the lack of variety, and the lack of precision at that point of the main attraction pattern of this book.As it was, since it was free, I don't have anything personally to be upset about. These are just some things for you to be aware of as you are considering this particular e-book.

Nothing Quick and Easy About This
I was excited to get this how to guide because I wanted to crochet some cool new pieces. I was sadly in a state of utter confusion and helplessness!I think this guide needed a little tutorial on what all the abbreviations stood for and pictures of the actual "stitches" at the beginning of the book. A couple of the patterns later on in the book did explain what a few of the abbreviations meant, but it wasn't helpful by that point. In most of the pattern guides, the nonstop string of abbreviations was also confusing. Even if I understood all the codes, I would have still had difficulty following the steps because of the run-on sentence type of format. I think this could've been designed in a more user friendly type of format.I have crocheted several blankets and scarves and have been successful at following some tutorials, so I am not a total novice at this hobby. I know how much work and love go into these patterns, but this guide just wasn't helpful for me. I still hope to crochet an owl one day, though!

This is not for beginners. Has pictures of patterns and several items in construction.
Sixteen easy patterns for afghans in a variety of Granny Square patterns. This is patterns only, so if you don't know how to crochet, there's a link to All Free Crochet, which includes tutorials and more patterns. This site usually has wonderful patterns for any and every thing. The patterns included in this book are basic and easy; the same as you find in other quickie pattern books. One pattern square did stand out, the Sweetest Baby Blanket Square by Tamara Kelly from Moogly.I found several of the quilts to be poorly designed, color selection-wise, but it's the patterns that are important. The instructions are written in the same format as in any crochet pattern. If that's too difficult for you to follow, list the instructions line by line for each round. These patterns can't get any simpler, they're basic. Start with the Rainbow Reduction Granny Square to get familiar with crochet abbreviations and making the squares. Once you've learned the abbreviations and how to crochet, there's isn't any pattern you can't handle, including clothing. Visit the website link for an abundance of help and patterns.

Not for Beginners
I got this book hoping it would teach me how to crochet. Instead I was created with a collection of patterns that while pretty were written in typical crochet pattern language which as a beginner is complete gibberish. I was hoping for step by step pictures guiding me through the process of how to crochet each pattern. Instead it was a collection of granny square patterns written in a way that I cannot understand. It might be a book of beautiful and easy patterns but it is not a how to crochet book.

fun to do
I got this to do owl pattern. I liked pattern and consider myself advanced crocheter. The instructions weren't clear in places. I had a little trial and error episodes. In one place instructions say look at picture to see where brown joins pink. Problem is no pink. The directions give no color guide. I had to figure out what was meant. It would have helped if direction said something along line of have colors A, B, etc. Then saw switch to color A, or what ever. I consider my self a more then advanced but less just less then expert crocheter. I had a few trials to figure out pattern.

Pictures and additional links
Great little book. The directions were accompanied by pictures of the finished squares. I know it's a little strange that I'm going about there being pics, but wait until you grab that book with the interesting front cover and realize that there's no pic. Let's see you laugh then...LOL. But seriously it's kind of a rarity. There are pics of some of the trickier instructions, as well. Which once again I will mention is a blessing. Loved it.

A great little book
A really great little book with some lovely patterns, I have not done a lot of crochet but the picture of the owl square on the front cover really tempted me, I was a little disappointed with the instructions as they keep talking about a magic circle to starting but didn't show or explain how to make one, I have eventually found a tutorial on the web for this so will soon have a go at some of the squares, I do think this was worth downloading as I've found I can get tutorials on the web for the parts I don't understand, although probably not a good idea for a complete novice unless you can watch the tutorials like I had to do, and of course it was free to download so you won't lose anything if you give it a go.

I enjoyed making the cover square with the little owl
Ideal for fairly new or experienced crocheters. I enjoyed making the cover square with the little owl, but also had fun doing several others too. With a new grandchild on the way, I have made a baby blanket mixing several patterns and it is warm and bright, ideal for when baby is a bit older. The instructions are fairly clear and as I have the kindle edition it is easy to take the patterns with me when travelling - in the car, on the bus or train or plane (I have never had a problem taking a crochet hook on a plane, whereas not all airlines allow sewing needles so I can't always take my embroidery with me for air journeys). Some prior knowledge of basic crochet stitches would be useful but not essential.

A Lovely Little Book
I am learning how to crochet and this little book is making it fun while stretching my skills. Squares are so satisfying , it's great for the Mental health during this awful pandemic. The book has a variety of patterns, some of which are easy and some which are more complex. You need to know the basics - doubles, trebles, magic ring, casting off etc. but other than that it's all explained. The only downside is the American terms, but there are conversion charts in other books and on-line. I can't quite believe a lovely little book like this is free. Recommended.

Good little squares
The lack of any instructions on how to make the crochet stitches is why I have given this four stars instead of five. The squares are great and there are so many different ones to choose from you are spoilt for choice. Any expert at crochet would be able to follow the instructions with not trouble but for those of us with only sketch crochet skills it is not so easy as I had no idea how to do an HDC and had to go and look it up so it would be good if this was explained for novices. Otherwise this is a great little book and I am please I got it. It's especially good with a Kindle Fire as you get it in colour!

How to crochet
Studied this from beginning to end. Made numerous attempts at it but I still can't understand how to crochet from the diagrams and instructions.
