I have MaCallum AB4 pipes. I bought a dozen of these inexpensive reeds. I normally buy reeds by the dozen. I buy high quality reeds from makers such as Souter, MacFee, Apps, Warnock. Every time I buy a lot of twelve, I end up tossing at least two for splits or lip nicks. Every single reed I will test with a Chris Apps pressure guage. The numbers are all over the place, no matter who made them. I put them in a humidor for three days to stabilize them, then I draw them out one at a time and sand and whittle them to my desired strength (22 inches of water). THIS batch had no defects to speak of (none tossed) and the" spread of pressure numbers" was tighter than batches I have ordered from the big names. So, yes, they're not as pretty (they don't varnish the threads that wrap the stable and reeds together). I've already dressed one, with just sandpaper to my preferred setting of 22 InH20, and it plays just fine. All this, for a price in which I could only have gotten TWO of the name brand reeds, I have TWELVE in my humidor to choose from. Unless your a competition piper, I say get these instead. I love them.
