Can be worn across either shoulder. Big enough to take a lightweight rain jacket, sandwiches, odds and ends. One of the pockets has a wrap around zip and opens up wide, so easy to get things in and out. The other one just has a straight up and down zip, so doesnt open so wide, not quite so convenient. There is a small external pocket for a water bottle, although it is quite small and a tight fit for all but the smallest bottles. The shoulder strap has a pocket for a small phone or compact camera and is very convenient. Can't say whether it is waterproof, but the material suggests that it will be. Better than a traditional backpack on a hot day, or if you're working hard climbing up hills, as your back won't get so sweaty.
