I bought my first Novelty (strange name but nothing 'novelty product' about these) at a store after many weeks of looking for a solid, simple, stone-looking planter. These things are tough thick resin and quite heavy, but much lighter than if they were real stone or concrete. They look great from afar and as long as you're not examining it from 5 inches away they can pass for a stone-like material or at least GFRC.In addition to their good looks, they have a great insert in the bottom so that it can function as a self-irrigating planter to some extent. While you cannot fill just the reservoir nor see how much water is in it, it does help to prevent water from pooling at the roots (as long as you are not over-over watering). Any slight overwatering drains into the reservoir where a plug of soil allows it to slowly wick back into the pot. There is a drain plug at that bottom too in case your plant is drowning.Another feature I like about this particular planter, the 36148, is that it has high side walls as compared to other window sill flower boxes. I have gotten a few others online and they were too shallow to plant much more than herbs, this one will accept quite a substantial plant and leave room for good soil and growth. I currently have snake plant planted in it, and as it's a succulent, the water storage at the bottom allows me to go longer between watering, but still drains most of the excess water. The only thing to be careful about is to make sure you don't plant below the water line. two of my cuttings developed root rot because I accidentally planted them too deep (below the water line). Now that I have that problem fixed, my plants are doing well. The product is a bit heavy, so if you plan to move your plants from inside to outside daily, it might not be the product for you. However it is still movable, so moving it inside in the fall and out in the spring isn't much of a hassle. ### ⭐ Looks great, but fails at the most important part...keeping the water inside. *by D***S on November 23, 2018* I really like the look of this product but it is very brittle. I did not realize it was cracked until I planted our orchids in it only to find a subtle drip that soaked our counter with brown soiled water. After emptying the planter I sprayed the inside with the rubbery sealant hoping that would fix it. It did for a period of time but once again the leaking has started.
