The wood is very solid. The only negative and something others have mentioned is the finish on the wood is very thin and probably wouldn't hold up with constant exposure to the weather. To address that I added 3 coats of an exterior high gloss clear finish and it looks great. The only other thing I would mention is that although I was able to assemble it myself another person assisting would have made it easier especially when trying to line up the screw holes. Some have mentioned they needed to purchase additional hardware since not enough was included. That was not the case in my situation. In fact, a few extra washers and nuts were included. The only thing that would have made this purchase better was if a pillow was included in addition to the hammock itself.
