Review: No more throw-away expensive one-time usage A/C filters! - Some years ago our family discovered static electricity A/C filters that worked very well for our home, but was 'cleaned' by the use of a vacuum and was not washable. These filters were more expensive than the others that would eventually have to be replaced as well. We've recently relocated to a new home with multiple A/C filters which already was collecting enough contaminates that they should be replaced. The former home owners had replacements for each filter location (each of different dimensions) so we used the new, but not washable filters until they started getting noticeably dirty. Since we had used static electricity filters that worked very well multiple times, they also had to be simply discarded. We searched for static electrical A/C filters in our new area and discovered the Trophy Air Washable Electrostatic HVAC Air Filters that is advertised as 'lifetime'. After much investigating we were very impressed that you can purchase common sizes, but if you have a unique size, like our present A/C you can actually order by dimensions to fit the intake frame precisely! So far (a few weeks of usage) the filters are working well but has not been needing any attention as yet, but has apparently collected some debris exactly as they should. A little initial higher cost than the static electric filters made of paper/plastic, but after comparing the current cost of our new filters we realized you could have to buy about 4 disposable filters for the cost of just one washable/reinstall life time filter. Plus, you can order custom sizes if necessary - just once! Great product, sturdy construction of aluminum framing and perfect fitting.

**Q: What is the merv?**
A: No exception for Electrostatic filters?
  You mean Elect filters weren't included in their Merv tests? 
  It doesn't mean they arent Merv rated by their own makers &/or independent corps because most filters Merv ratings regardless of material they're made out of are simply based on their standards not actually tested by them.
 Automotive filters have no testing other than makers testing them & advertising their products abilities. We can Google most brands results/reviews to learn what to use & not use. Purolator makes an oil filter that last 20k miles & independant tests verified they actually do reach it too. Just say'n most filters are just independently tested then its best results are advertised by corps is all.
  Some of these Elec filters are in rated as much as 12 merv. Regardless who tests it they better meet it too & they do get tested bet on it. Lawsuites fly, products get pulled quickly these days if they dont reach advertised ratings as false advertising laws do still exist.

**Q: Is it a Quantity of 2 like is in the picture?**
A: No the price is per filter.

**Q: how many times can you wash these metal filters**
A: Ours are a year old washed once a month and should last the life of the house, for sure the rest of my life.  30 years +

**Q: does it make any difference which side of filter faces the inside of the heating unit**
A: Notice that the description says 6 stages.  Normally in the context of filtration, stages refers to filer media that capture different size particles.  The way it works is the filter layer (stage) which captures the biggest particles is first in stream, with the layer which captures the smallest particles last in stream.  That means that such a filter would have to be directional; it's the only way that makes sense.

So... if this filter is not actually directional, then it probably really doesn't have filtration "stages" at all.  I don't know what the actual story with this filter is, but it seems to me it can't both have stages and be bidirectional.

Just rinse it off in your sink and you're good to go. Haven't seen whether this will rust over time; I plan on using a thin coat of WD-40 on it to help prevent this from happening.
