His books range from serial killers to fantasy and they are always full of action and they aren't preachy. My husband had read some of the serial killer books and didn't even realize that Ted Dekker was a christian. This is probably his most spiritual book and I am sure that it rubbed many the wrong way. There is nothing special about the boy in the story except his complete faith in God and his tender heart that can't even stand to see a man who was shooting at him suffering. He has always grown up around monks so his life has always been surrounded by faith. Jesus told his disciples that they would do greater things than he had done once they received the Holy Spirit so there should be no objection to a child with perfect faith performing miracles.I found the book inspiring and challenging. The child's faith begins to falter when he is exposed to television and our worldly way of thinking. He has to struggle to find his way back to his total dependence on God. How well that reflects most of our lives. In the end, it is not the child but one of the new Christians that preforms the greatest miracle because of the faith he has received from this child. What a challenge to our lives that are so buried in the worries of this world that we forget the promises that God has given us if we would only seek him. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Never disappoints *by R***Y on October 10, 2017* I can not recall how many Ted Dekker books I have read, but what I can recall is that I have thoroughly enjoyed all of them. This ranks in my top 5 books of all time. To capture what the Holy Spirit must look like takes a great imagination, and he had a little help, it's called the Holy Bible. Jesus was doing this kind of stuff way before Ted wrote this book, but I do so love his insight and his willingness to share in such a bold and dramatic way that even non believers must take pause and consider the possibility that what he writes about must have merit. A must read for fellow Christians and a great ice breaker for non Christians. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Interesting read that makes you think *by S***E on August 27, 2013* Reading this book and following all that happens with Caleb after he is brought to the US was quite interesting. The book kept my interest trying to figure out what comes next. Yes, there are some weaknesses in the book but I think the book tells a lot about how powerful we Christians could be if we really plugged in to the Holy Spirit. Could we do all that Caleb does? Who knows. I find it thought provoking that the one item that really gives Caleb trouble is the television. How many of us sit in front of the television when we could be spending time with God. Yes, I am in that group. What would happen if we were to spend time with God like we should? This book gives a hint of what might possibly be able to happen.
