It is great for a quick check of directions whilst in an unfamiliar environment. I would use something more sophisticated for accurate navigation using a map. Also note that the pointers are FLUORESCENT and not luminous. **Q: Do you need a battery for the compass** A: No battery required. **Q: does it glow in the dark ? thanks** A: No. Personally, I would be using something rather more advanced for night navigation. The figures are very small and I would not use it for precise work with a map.
