So far it's holding up well with no signs of wear. It works well for both my wife and me (5'4" and 6'0"). I can't vouch for medical benefits, but as 60-somethings with the occasional sore back, we both find it deeply relaxing. It's most effective for the mid- to upper back areas and the neck and shoulder region. The heat can be a little too intense at times, especially against a single layer of clothes, but it's easy to turn off and on at will.
