The promise of the premise was definitely fulfilled. I see why people enjoy this series so much. I can appreciate the work this book is doing and the sexy scenes were definitely sexy. Technically, this could be a true 4 star read, except there were a few details and character traits that aren’t a great fit for me personally, and took me out of the story throughout. Like Gabi’s daddy issues and how often she kept tracking similarities between Marcus and her father. Very not my thing. Though, by the end the author addressed this issue well, it took away from my overall reading experience. So, in the end, it’s a 3.5, still a good rating in my book. Not a favorite, but not because it was poorly done. And of course, I always round up. The Shadowlands cast of characters is definitely interesting and I think I will enjoy other books in this series even more. I definitely want to see what happens with Kim in the next book, and look forward to backtracking to the previous stories I haven’t read yet. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Love Gabi and Marcus! *by J***B on Reviewed in the United States on August 20, 2021* I wasn't sure what to expect going into this book because the prior 4 haven't been as good as I was hoping. But this one, hands down, is my favorite of the series. I absolutely love Gabi and Marcus. Marcus doesn't really understand why he's been told he needs to work with a new trainee Gabi for a month. Marcus has no desire to be with a sub that's bratty, which of course Gabi is supposed to be doing. But he is drawn to her. He can see she has submissiveness in her, but can't put his finger on why the bratty comes out.Gabi comes from a pretty strict and conservative family. When she first sees Master Marcus, she only sees that he's in a suit and assumes she knows he's going to be conservative and judgy. However, she starts to realize she is comfortable around him and starts to have a hard time because she can't break her cover and she's starting to feel guilty and hates that she's disappointing him.This book had a little more drama than prior ones. We get to see more of Jessica's bratty side in this one as she and Z also have a side part in this book.I'll say it again though, Gabi and Marcus together...SO SO GOOD! My absolute favorite couple so far! ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Most fun of the series *by E***T on Reviewed in the United States on June 26, 2018* I've read the entire Masters of the Shadowlands series (to Book 13), but this is my favorite, which I keep coming back to and re-reading with delight.I'd agree that as a series, the plot of these stories becomes a little repetitive. As this is early in the series, it didn't detract from my enjoyment. I loved the relationship between Gabi and Marcus, and seeing other characters I've come to think of as old friends now through the series was fun. I'd also agree that Gabi is over the top in her bratty behavior, but that's the role she's playing, for a very good reason. Marcus does realize her behavior isn't consistent, and I liked the way he reacted, which was smart and measured and in character.There are some absolute stand-out scenes in this book: the figging, the pursuit through the Shadowlands, the doggie punishment. They're wonderful to read - the author has such an amazing imagination.
