    Just everything…

6 years ago, we bought one of these Ecofans, and loved it so much we added a second one a month later. SIX YEARS and they are still going strong! That is not to say they are perfect or worry free. In six years we have replaced 3 motors, and sometimes you have to dust them off. I imagine if you are a house full of smokers, they will require more cleaning, happily, we are not.We live in Evanston, Wyoming at nearly 6,900 feet above sea level, and last night it was -10°F. We ran the electric noise producing electricity chugging blower all night (we haven't Winterized our windows yet). As long as the temps remain nearer zero, these fans do the trick. It was such a joy to be able to turn the blower off and let these little babies take over when we got caught up though. I'm contemplating replacing these with the 812's which are rated at 175 CFM's which would give us another 100 CFM's with two of them, but that would knock my total investment up to $460 ($200 for the initial set then $260 for the 812's)... Of course if you prorated that over six years, it's still less expensive than running the electric blower full time...As other reviewers have said, they do double duty, in reality though it is quadruple: 1) they distribute heat more evenly 2) they reduce your fuel consumption 3) they automatically adjust to the rate of fire (our blower motor instructs us to adjust its speed manually, low at the beginning and end of the fire and high in the middle) and 4) they let you know when it is time to stoke the fire visually because they slow down as the dire wanes which is important when using any blower, because they warm your house more thoroughly which creates a lag from the time you need to load more wood, until the time you start feeling cold and may have to fire hotter to catch back up, lessening comfort and wasting wood. The final piece to the comfort puzzle is humidity. You will notice in the video I posted that I have a cast iron humidifier front and center, when we load the stove with wood, we also "load" the humidifier with rain water which we store in the basement (in rain barrels purchased on Amazon atop stands we built ourselves) and keep in the large coffee pot on the floor opposite the wood pile. Why rainwater? No scale buildup or freakish super heating events (think Yellowstone geysers) which used to happen with mineral rich tap water. Also, yay, free water! Some of the reviews I've read say you have to manually start these, which is inconvenient (obviously) but it is a sign of a weak motor. One of our originals was this way, and eventually that lag to start (if someone wasn't around to tap it at the right time) was a sign that motor was bad and eventually caused it to burn out. Of course we didn't know that when we first got them, it was only through experience that we learned that. The motors are inexpensive though and $10-$15 and a couple of screws later you are back in business! We always keep one spare on hand. These little items are worth every penny, when we have power outages in the Winter our elderly friends and neighbors know where to come to warm up. It gives the most wonderful feeling of self reliance. Two Winters ago, when it was -20°F our gas main froze solid. We were unaware of it until we tried to cook dinner (gas stove and hot water heater). If you are interested in comfort, as well as self reliance, these gems are definitely worth adding to your arsenal. If you are dedicated to heating your home in cold country with wood, I would recommend the 812's. If you are more moderate climate or occasional use these will do just fine! As a final note, our electric bill dropped over $20/ month when we added the second fan and stopped using the blower motor all the time.

Heat powered fan is a must-have for woodstove owners!

*by M***R on Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on November 13, 2012*

The Camframo Limited 800CABBX Heat Powered Fan replaces an earlier model we had that lasted about 6 years. While we have had our share of laughs about the lack of air we actually observe being moved, I will say that the fan does indeed quietly circulate warm air throughout our greatroom. The faster the blades spin, the hotter the stove is and conversely, the slower it spins, the colder the stove. This makes it easy to know when to feed the fire, without having to open the damper and doors to check. It is pricey, which is why I deducted a star, but we've been happy with how long our other fan lasted and besides, it's a great conversation piece when guests visit!

Great Investment for My Wood Stove

*by A***7 on Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on December 14, 2010*

I don't write a review for a product unless it really stands out. This little fan most certainly qualifies. I, like most wood stove users, was having an issue with too much heat in the directly heated room, and pockets of cold elsewhere. Since I wasn't able to change the principles of thermodynamics, I bought this fan in the hope that it might alleviate at least some of the temperature differential I was experiencing. I was truly skeptical, but have found it delivers amazingly well. It comes ready-to-go and should be set-up according to the instructions, generally offset from the center of the stove to allow cold air to pass from behind the stove through the fan. I have found that I can manipulate the transfer of heat simply by changing fan direction or moving it to the alternate corner. My room is approximately 15x20 with french doors across from the woodstove on the farthest side. With a good controlled fire I can easily transfer heat out the doors and into the body of the house. I have noticed a significant change in the temperature throughout my home as a result of the fan.The operation itself is whisper quiet and fascinating to watch. At a certain temperature, the fan will suddenly start to spin, much to the shock of friends and family (all of whom have been made to watch this in my home). As other reveiwers have noted, the speed of the fan can serve as a reminder to feed the fire as it progressively slows down. The construction, while solid, does feature delicate blades, and I'm very cautious when moving it. Overall, I think this is a must have product for frequent wood stove users. The price is a bit of an obstacle, but I look at it as an investment in my stove, which makes heating with wood more comfortable.
