Review: An Absolute Must For Every Christian - Renner’s strength is his ability to bring out the meaning of the original Greek in a way that the reader is able to have a good, working knowledge of what God intended for us to understand in His word. In fact, he goes verse by verse and word by word, bringing out the meaning of the original Greek on the entirety of Ephesians 6:10-18. As he does this, he brings in many other passages related to spiritual warfare, and he brings out the meaning of the original Greek on these passages as well. Renner has a way of bringing out the original Greek in such a way that it makes it exciting, encouraging, invaluable, educational, and one wants to read more. I genuinely felt the joy of the Lord as I read this book. The amount of detail is fantastic. I could not put this book down, it was so good. I might add that before I read this book, I had already done many word studies in Ephesians chapter 6 and other passages related to spiritual warfare with my word study books. So, before I ever read what Renner had to say about many of the same words in his book, I already knew what these words meant in the original Greek. When I read what Renner said, I immediately knew that he understood exactly what he was saying. He has a wonderful grasp of New Testament Greek. I originally purchased this book, because half of this entire book is just on the spiritual armor as described in Ephesians chapter 6. I know of no other book that explains the spiritual armor in as much depth as this one does. In the middle of this book, there are excellent, sharp full-color pictures of the Roman armor. This allows one to see exactly what the apostle Paul had in mind when writing about the spiritual armor. After saying all of these wonderful things about Renner’s book, I am now going to share what I strongly disliked about it. At the very beginning of this book, under Acknowledgments, and at the very end of this book, under A Word About Our Work, Renner associates with and identifies with Faith Healers, such as Kenneth Hagin, Kenneth Copeland, Joyce Meyer. I, personally, try to stay as far away from Faith Healers as possible. However, for the record, Renner did an outstanding job in Dressed to Kill. As somebody who is on the conservative side of things and does not embrace the more outward manifestations of the Holy Spirit, I learned a lot from this book. I cannot say enough good about it. Admittedly, there were a few “weird” ideas that I disagreed with near the first part of this book and also in the last part of this book. I believe that these ideas were from the Faith/Healing ministries. However, I simply skipped over those parts. I have never read a book where I agree with every single point anyway. Having said this, I would gladly read Renner’s entire book a second time. So far, I have read four books on spiritual warfare. I would put Renner’s book at the very top of the list, directly next to Jerry Rankin’s Spiritual Warfare: The Battle for God’s Glory. One of Rankin’s strengths is that he deals with misunderstandings among Christians and misinterpretations of Scripture. Both Renner’s book and Rankin’s book are an absolute must for every Christian. Both are overflowing with wisdom and helpful information. Concerning The Loinbelt of Truth in chapter 10, in my opinion, things get a little confusing: He says that the Sword of the Spirit, the word of God is not a visible piece of weaponry—the Bible. He equates the loinbelt of truth with the written word of God, and he speaks of them as if they are one and the same. I believe that the Sword of the Spirit can also be understood as the Bible. I also believe that Renner could have put the focus on the Bible as something outside of the spiritual armor or in addition to it. Instead of speaking of the loinbelt of truth and the written word of God as the same thing, Renner could have said that the way somebody keeps the loinbelt securely fastened around the waist is to read and study the Bible on a daily basis. For the record, Renner is absolutely right in putting a huge emphasis on the written word of God and all of the wonderful things he says about it. This is another major theme throughout this entire book.
Review: Best Spiritual Warfare Book I've Ever Read! - Dressed to Kill is a great book on spiritual warfare coupled with balance. It helps you not swing too far left or right but to stay right in the middle of the road with spiritual warfare. The only thing that is a bit distracting with the audible version is that the music behind the intro to each chapter are a bit too high so the lady narrator's voice gets drown out sometimes. (Sorry I edit music and videos). This book is great. I highly recommend it. I also recommend that if you have purchased the Audible version to actually purchase a hard copy. The picture references are worth the price alone. There is a lot of information packed into this book. And instead of focusing on screaming at the devil it brings the focus back to Christ! Plus what's not to like? This book goes into detail about Paul's experience and why he focused on Roman Soldiers as the reference to the armor of God. How Rick Rener descibes the way Romans used their weapons is enough to help you understand a depth of the armor of God that I've never even thought about. This is a definite must read. It's deep enough to captivate adults yet simple enough to teach to kids! Love this book, I think it should be on everyone's bookshelf and used as part of your weaponry against the enemy. Enjoy this book! I know I have!

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ My 3 Key Takeaways...
*by A***D on May 12, 2025*

Though I was already familiar with his teachings from watching several sermons, podcasts and interviews, this was my first time reading Rick Renner’s work. I expected the book’s focus to be on casting out demons, but was pleasantly surprised to find deeper biblical insight on spiritual armor delivered with clarity and purpose. Before exploring the details of spiritual armor, the author introduces essential aspects of the Christian walk that must first be acknowledged, reflected on, and aligned to the Word of God. Some of these keys, which I’ll touch on later, are often seen as “common sense” for believers, but I had never considered them foundational to engaging in spiritual warfare. I appreciated that Rick clearly defines spiritual warfare early on as “ongoing conflicts with unseen demonic powers,” helping me quickly grasp that this battle takes place in both the spiritual and physical realms, often without warning signs. Three key principles that stood out to me as foundational for engaging in spiritual battle: renewing the mind, walking in “Kratos” power, and staying in unbroken fellowship with Jesus. The mind is often the enemy’s primary battleground, and since not every thought originates from us, we must learn to recognize, confront, and “take each thought captive into the obedience of Christ”, (2 Corinthians 10:5). Rick makes a such bold and honest statement when he declares that, “the devil’s attacks wouldn’t work if our flesh did not cooperate.” It’s a sobering truth, and one that reminds me of the need to crucify the flesh, surrender to the Holy Spirit, and live a life dead to sin. The enemy builds strongholds in hidden places of the mind, attaching intrusive, deceptive thoughts that can subtly control our behavior and beliefs. But the Holy Spirit in His faithfulness, (if we are careful to remain connected to Him), exposes these vulnerabilities. When He convicts us, it’s a call to repent and correct course before those weaknesses harden into strongholds. Obedience to His promptings is one of the surest ways to close the door to spiritual attack and fight against these unseen demonic deceptions. I deeply connected with the first principle I discovered, “renewing the mind” because it brought me back to my teenage years. I vividly remember longing for trendy clothes from The Gap, backpacks and jackets from United Colors of Benetton, and the latest sneakers from LA Gear and Reebok, but was always denied these desires due to my parents’ financial abilities. At one point, I made a quiet vow to myself: “When I grow up and have a job, I’ll always get what I want.” That simple statement became an open door for the enemy to begin shaping a battle plan against me. Just last month, I felt led into a 30-day no-spend challenge. What I thought (and others naturally consider) was a simple financial reset, for me became a spiritual fast. As I read through the book, I came to realize that my unhealthy spending habits were rooted in a mental agreement I made with my younger self. A promise to always get what I wanted once I had my own money. Over time, spending became more than a habit; it was fun, thrilling, even intoxicating. The enemy used that desire to feed a lifestyle centered on self-indulgence, wrapped in rational thinking. I had built a pattern of justifying my behavior by paying off just enough of my credit card to avoid interest; an easy escape for someone not fully and truly committed to transformation. Rick Renner’s engaging book also helped me trace this behavior back even further, prompting me to reflect on my early environment. I found myself blaming my mom for sending me to a preppy junior high school so far from home that I had to take an hour bus ride, to be surrounded by kids who lived seemingly privileged lives. That exposure awakened a desire in me to fit in through appearance and material things. What began as a simple challenge revealed itself as spiritual correction. The Holy Spirit used this book to uncover a deep-seated pattern and lovingly convicted me. It challenged my thinking, exposed my wastefulness, and gave me a true understanding of my condition. I was especially drawn to Rick’s valuable and numerous Greek word studies throughout the book. He not only defined each term so effortlessly, but also skillfully wove those meanings back into the scripture, deepening their impact and clarity as I read through the book. One of the most striking examples was the word “Kratos”, mentioned above and defined as “demonstrated, eruptive power that is outwardly visible and made available through the Holy Spirit”. Without this kind of power, we cannot truly confront the enemy and expect winning results. “Kratos” power is not meant to remain dormant because it demands release. When the Holy Spirit empowers us, it’s not just for personal benefit, it’s meant to be seen, expressed, and used to accomplish God’s work in and through us. One final and foundational principle the author emphasizes before engaging in spiritual warfare is the importance of maintaining unbroken fellowship with God. This ongoing connection is vital as it grants us continual access to the power behind the armor, which comes from the Lord Himself. Without it, our effectiveness against the enemy’s relentless accusations is compromised. We are called to live a consecrated life, anchored in a personal and private relationship with Jesus. From this place of intimacy flows the supernatural strength we need to stand firm. I am now excited and ready to implement my own simple yet powerful battle plan: to renew my mind through studying the Word, to live a holy life in alignment with the Word, to be transformed into the image of Christ as revealed in the Word, and to walk faithfully after the Spirit. Above all, I must remain spiritually awake and mentally prepared, knowing that the enemy roams like a lion seeking someone to devour. While Rick Renner provides profound insight, practical & wise tips for application, and rich spiritual depth regarding each piece of the believer’s armor, I chose to focus on the truths that resonated most personally with me. That said, for anyone seeking a deeper understanding of spiritual warfare and how to use their armor, “Dressed to Kill” is a powerful and worthwhile resource.
