## Description

Product Description 19" color TV bottom speakers desertcart.com Nicely compact and attractively styled in a silvery gray cabinet, the 19-inch Toshiba 19A26 CRT television will fit easily into any room in your home--from kitchen to kids' room. It features a handy A/V input on the front of the set for quick connection of VCR, DVD player, game console, or video camcorder. It also offers V-Chip parental controls, enabling password protection to block shows based on the TV rating system. The GameTimer feature also allows parents to set the TV to shut off after a specified period of game playing, and it will stay off until a lockout key code is entered. Other features include a 181-channel NTSC tuner, standard display 4:3 aspect ratio, 1-watt mono speaker, 3.5mm headphone jack for private listening, tri-lingual onscreen menus (English, French, Spanish), glow-key remote control, and a sleep timer that can delay shut-down for up to three hours (in 10-minute intervals). All CRT television picture tubes have a shadow mask behind the glass that helps create the picture. This set incorporates Toshiba's Blackstripe II tubes, which utilizes a special compound in the shadow mask to absorb unnecessary light emissions. And to reduce reflection, tinting is built into the glassÑnot sprayed on as it is by some manufacturersÑwhen the cathode ray tube is being created. Together, these improvements provide increased contrast and an 18 percent increase in brightness over standard tubes. Review: You buy cheap, you get cheap - Sure, the TV is cheap and works--for the most part. It's just hard to get past the fact that there is an annoying buzzing when something is connected to the yellow video A/V input. The service requires me to drive the new TV an hour away. So for that, it is a hassle. What did I expect for about 100 bucks?
Review: Decent TV for the price - I bought this since I needed something basic, small (under 15"), and inexpensive to replace a 20 year old 13" Sony CRT TV whose tube just went out. Since I couldn't find a Sony with a small size and didn't want to spend nearly 3x's the amount for a 15" flat screen LCD TV, I looked for a Toshiba next since I've had sets from them before which lasted over 10 years. The picture tube quality of the Toshiba is about as good as the Trinitron which is good enough for me. After having read other reviews about the sound quality and volume on this particular television, my own experience is that there are no issues with the set I received with low volume (I have it at 7-8 which is about just 1/8th of the max level and it is pretty loud at this lower setting) or buzzing with the volume nearly off. The side firing speakers are decent enough since I'm not looking for this to be a home theater experience (I just set the bass all the way to the max to make it sound "fuller" instead of tinny). I tested all video inputs (3) including the composite video connectors and also had no issues with buzzing. The nice thing about this set is it also has an S-Video port on the back (most cheaper tv's have just one set of inputs and no S-Video). The side firing speakers do take up some space but the set is still compact enough to fit in the space that my 13" Sony was in. Weight wise, this unit is also very light. Setup is naturally pretty easy. The remote is decent and functional. As for negatives, the text label for the onscreen channel info is sort of thin and ugly and the light blue color can make the information difficult to see depending what is on the screen (the fatter green labels on my Sony stood out). The other negative is editing channel labels and manually "erasing" channels (so they can be skipped). On the Sony, you could just use the channel selector to move to the previous/next channel with the menu options remaining onscreen to allow easy changing. With the Toshiba, you have to exit completely out of the menu screen, change the channel, re-display the menu screen, and select the option you want to change (i.e. it requires much more input on the remote). This however is just a minor annoyance since this isn't done often. Overall, I'm pleasantly surprised by the value of the product since it is actually better than what I expected. Regarding reliability, time will tell if this television lives up to prior Toshiba sets.
