A slight bend up from the base of each of the 3 arms results in some loftier flights and longer hang time, which we found is good for attracting bats around dusk. My 5 year old loves using them and so far gets a properly-adjusted one to return to within 10 feet of him. My 2 year old loves picking them up, bending them, twisting them, and stomping on them, after which I'm able to get the shape of the boomerang dialed back in within 3-5 throws.
