There’s a really tight mechanism to open them so my husband helps so I won’t break my nails. He feels certain it will loosen up with time as his have over the years. Unfortunately this was also the fist dive of a week long liveaboard trip. I had tested them on a short weekend trip and they survived that. Very bad publicity, a boat full of experienced scuba divers excited to see how these fins would work and then complete failure. My pair is incredibly difficult to "unhinge". And I'm afraid to attempt to overflex the release in order to "loosen" it up..I don't see how I could easily release the catch to flip them up while dealing with choppy waters.Wait for a better version with a release that resemble the strap buckles that flip up..
