It can fold up but seems quite sturdy walking. The extra arm folds up but can be helpful as well, like helping to get up or even holding your small purse. It also can stand alone if you are careful with it, which can be very helpful. Overall, I'm quite pleased and it was a great price for it. I do wish the top part had a little cushion like the side arm, but I am really not complaining. Also, there is some adjustable height, which is helpful. But it was kind of handy. Unfortunately batteries lasted, on or off, about one day. In fairness, canes get dropped, fall down, and cheap delicate electronics are not designed to be dropped, having the batteries fall out regularly. Perhaps it was a drop or two that caused the severe battery drain problem. Having a degree in electronics. I think, not likely, but possible. Certainly the batteries should not entirely drain being "off" the entire time and next day the light and horn not working. So why? The light came in handy at night putting keys in car door. The horn? Maybe if I fell and needed help? The additional handle was my back up if I fell, not the horn.
