The pocket is sewn on and opens accordion style to hold smaller objects. Our pocket measures 3.25 in X 7 in and expands roughly 1.5 inches. This tank bib is hand made from black marine grade simulated leather that will withstand the elements very well. This material is very soft and supple, ideal for applications such as this. It can be wiped cleaned with water or any material cleaner/protectant and no special maintenance is required. We conducted extensive testing on this material and after a year of solid exposure to outdoor weather it showed little to no signs of aging. The studs we use are top quality, made here in the US by a company that has been in business over 100 years. They are chrome plated brass studs and hold up extremely well. These are not the cheap nickel plated steel studs that will rust when exposed to moisture and we know you’ll love them. To protect your paint, we sew the item together with a soft backing. We did an incredible amount of testing and found what we believe is the perfect backing material. It is quite soft and does an excellent job of protecting the tank from the studs. Many tank bib manufacturers use felt backings but we feel this is a cheap material that does not do an adequate job. In contrast, this material will not break down upon exposure to the elements and has done very well in testing. We use bonded polyester thread, also manufactured here in the US. Polyester thread is ideal for this application because of how well it holds up over time and its fade resistant qualities. We are a family owned and operated business and quality is important to us. I cursed like a salty sailor trying to fit this bib properly.First problem:Keeping the same space between the circumference of the cutout and the housing bezel is a FREAKING PAIN IN A$$!Second problem:Keeping the proper tight seal on the bezel's rubber.This is definitely a two man job. My girl opted-out of any motorcycle helping because of my Army method of doing things which inludes, cursing, more sursing, louder cursing and finally stabbing and killing with a screwdriver, the very thing that I was trying to install.You need someone hold the top of the bib while you position the bezel and then stretch ever so slightly until you center the top, side & bottom on the cutout hole to the bezel.If you do it alone (like me) then you have to first align the bezel so you can loosely tighten to the tank mount enough to put pressure on the bib so you can pull the sides to equal spacing. The problem is the mesh lining underneath the bib slides on the tank's smooth paint surface. It will disalign itself quite easily and keeping the top of the bib from bunching up inside the bezel's top hole was a mission.Third problem:Tighten the gas tank lower bolt to proper torque without tearing the fabric of the bib. It took a couple of tries but I was able to keep the lower part straight and the torque the bolt probably.Last problem:The pocket's flap velcro is not properly sewn to match hook to loop. The hook is sewn too high where only a third of it makes contact with the loop. Of course since I'm anal retentive and I can actually sew, I repositioned the loop so it would latch properly with the loop.Overall it is not bad for being made of synthetic vinyl. The fabric is very thin and if you keep anything inside the pocket for too long it will take that form.
