I bought these to go over our girls' REI packs and sure enough we needed them on a long hike in NC this summer. We got caught in a pop-up thunderstorm and it poured on us for hours. The cover kept rain off the top, but it allowed water to pool in the bottom - the water that made it under the top because of the shoulder straps (these packs do not go up over the straps). Some covers have a small drain hole in the bottom, but this one does not . The water pooled there and allowed the bottom of the bag to get wet as a result. Overall, it kept most things dry, but a little drain hole would have made it perfect. All in all, I can recommend his cover - it is easy to use and waterproof. Only used it once but it did work in the pouring rain while riding a bike (nice vacation!). Wish it rolled up a bit smaller but because it's a bit thicker material and more durable you get what you get. I keep it in the bottom of the backpack at all time. Wish it secured around the back a bit better. Depending on the layout of your straps it may slip off once in awhile.
