I love the taste of saffron in rice, and it is a very expensive spice to buy alone to add to recipes. My favorite recipe using saffron also uses turmeric, which I also take. These spices are used frequently in Indian cooking — as in the subcontinent of India — and is often purchased in bulk there. Although I’ve been through several serious illnesses of which some are still chronic, my “numbers” all look good. A cardiology pharmacist suggested that I not put much stock in spices from areas of the world with better health rates in certain fields, especially if they are expensive such as saffron; but I do my homework and then make my own decisions. In the final end, if the advice is not urgent and the decision is up to me, I treat it as such.
