    5th grade reading level, simplistic

*by J***E on Reviewed in the United States on July 3, 2017*

I'm always looking for a new good writer to follow. This would not be one. Her writing is simplistic and IMHO juvenile. I get that some writers don't want to delve into descriptions of sex and I would prefer that they not if they can't do it justice so that's not what I am referring to. Just the basic dialogue between all of the characters was immature. There were few conjugations so everything was spelled out making it a very stilted read. I really wanted to like this book and while the author was able to build a certain amount of caring for the characters and what happens, not nearly enough to continue with this dry reading. I got tired of reading about Tony's business and how it was faltering. That just seemed to be a main theme with this book rather than getting into some of the other characters. Lets face it, if u had a stove from the 50's that was in good working order it would be a dream to work with. They are beautiful and large enough to cook a holiday meal practically all at once. If there were anything wrong with it there would be indications of it. Her daughter ...I'm not even going to go there. How does she not know about rip tides when she lives near an ocean? There were other topics that created the DUH moment for me as well. I'm done, like a turkey, in the 50's oven that I would give a fortune for just to have my grandmothers back.

    Good Storyline but....

*by K***Y on Reviewed in the United States on July 16, 2017*

I enjoyed Judith Keim's Beach House Hotel series - read all three of them and thought they were pretty good as easy beach books. I bought this book along with the second of Keim's new series and have to say, I was surprised it was the same author as the Beach House Hotel. While the writing in the Beach House Hotel was a little stilted at times, I thought it was overall enjoyable. I cannot say the same about these two books - the writing seemed geared to Young Adults and the character development was very elementary. The three sisters were filled with self-doubts and all three experienced juvenile reactions to different challenges that arose during the story. There was a lot of repetition of angst and self -doubt throughout these two books...as well as overusing the same descriptions and terms.I actually liked the storyline which is why I read the second book --just felt the writing and character development wasn't up to par.

    Cliffhanger

To get an idea of the story line, you can easily read the book description, or any of the other reviews. I just wanted to say that I was really enjoying this book a lot.......until I came to the end and realized I'd have to buy the rest of the series order to finish the story. What a disappointment! I do generally like 'series' books IF each story is tied up with a neat bow at the end. In those cases, it's usually a matter of tying up the story of the main characters... then in the next book, introducing a new story around the lives of secondary characters from the previous book. That is a perfectly acceptable way to encourage sales of future books. That's not how this series works though. I think readers should be told in advance if they will have to read multiple books to finish a story. I don't know if this is a marketing ploy on the part of the author or the publisher, but I will not play that game. I'm done. I will live with the fact that I won't know how everything turns out in the end.
