I keep it always running and is not noisy at all. I paid 110 :-) l think was a great deal. Review: Seems to function well in a 250 sq ft basement - I've had it for 2 weeks and it has been running in my 250 sq ft basement the whole time. I'm still on the high setting and draining by the tube into a small sink. It has significantly reduced the indicated relative humidity from high 70's % to high 60's %. High speed setting is a bit louder than I expected, but still not intrusive. As advertised, it is not as efficient as a compressor based unit, but hopefully it will last longer and is quieter than the compressor unit I had before.
