I tend to like my tuning in the mid- to lower range and this drum sounds fat but not muddy in that range. As far as dynamics, it is indeed sensitive when played quietly, the snares don't miss anything. And when you pound it, it gives out a clear pop rather than the dull slap sound lots of deeper-shell snares seem prone to. Maybe it's because it's maple, I don't know, I heard things both ways about whether the wood or the shell construction has the most effect on this kind of thing. But this gave me what I wanted, a warmer sound than I'm getting from my steel snare, with clear and well-defined sound at all volume levels. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5.0 out of 5 stars Top line Yamaha snare ; Last of an era *by 3***Y on Reviewed in the United States on November 11, 2015* Body, weight and response in spades! My fifth Yamaha snare and finest in finish and character. Matches my Yamaha Maple Absolute kit with power and clarity. I at first wanted the 14 X 5.5" but glad I acquired the 6.5" instead.
