Local laser hair removal clinics wanted $250 a session for men, compared to $85 a session for women. Second, the manufacture and FDA clearly warn that this is NOT for Brazilians and should not be used on genitals or anuses. So if you do use it there, do so at your own risk and against their warnings/recommendations. Also, at least test the skin color in those areas using the tool's skin test window as most people are darker down there, and it could result in serious skin burns on dark skin. I'm milk-white, so I wasn't worried. Third, it only works on dark hair. I have dark brown hair, white skin, so this worked perfectly for me. However, I do have some grey hair down there, so this won't work on those. If you have blond hair, this won't work! Fourth, It is a sensitive area and dense hair so I am only able to use it on number 4 setting. It feels like a rubber band snapping against my skin. That's a lot to gamble on something that might not work. I've had my Tria for a couple months now and done 4-5 treatments (more on some areas than others). There is a significant difference in the amount of hair. I've done my arm pits, bikini line, legs, and a few stray hairs here and there. (Thanks, Aging.) The legs are the hardest part because the treatment area on the laser is small--about the size of the diameter of a tub of chapstick. Moiving over your legs, it's difficult to tell exactly where you've treated. You almost need to draw a grid pattern on your legs so you can keep track, but doing that with anything dark (like an ink pen or eye liner) would create dark spots that wouldn't be good for lasering. So my legs are now bald in patches, with other patches that still have hair. Over time, I'm sure I'll get it all. But even now, I can go for more than a week without shaving and still feel okay wearing shorts. The bikini line is uncomfortable, but tolerable. In order to be able to use the laser on a higher setting (which is more effective), I used Numb Master, a product I bought on Amazon. After 4 treatments, the hair is much more sparse. When I shave, I no longer get red bumps or irritation, which I assume is because there is less hair and it's thinner. Again, I'm not done and I do need more treatments, but I can go longer without feeling overly furry. Same with my armpits. Most of the treatments I've done have been on level 3. Sometimes I push it to 4, but that can be a bit painful, and I'm okay with it taking a bit longer and hurting a but less. I've never braved level 5, though on certain areas of my legs it would probably be fine, but on others--no way, since 3 can really get my attention sometimes. I've also done my upper lip, which had just a few dark hairs. I have done either 4 or 5 treatments, and I think the hairs are completely gone and that I'm done treating that area. The first zap I did on my lip I set the laser to 1, because I wanted to be extra cautious about burns. It was fine, so I changed to 2. By the 3rd treatment, I was up to 3 .I never went higher than that. One note about shaving. The directions say to shave before treating. You really, really need to do this. A day's or maybe 2 day's growth is probably okay. But I put the laser on a totally unshaved area with thick hair and got a minor burn. No damage, but it HURT, and stayed red and a bit tender for a couple hours. I'd missed a patch when shaving and figured it wouldn't matter. It did!! For me, the full battery charge isn't quite enough to do pits, bikini (extensively) and both legs. I do bikini and pits one day, and legs the next. Overall, I'm very pleased that I bit the bullet and made this purchase.
